About This Role

Position Title: High School Career Life Education, Media and Drama Teacher
Reports to: Head of School
FTE: 0.14 FTE (Part-time)
Location: Vancouver Waldorf School

Position Summary
The High School Career Life Education, Media and Drama Teacher is integral in motivating students through creative expression, performance, and critical engagement with various media formats. Aligned with Waldorf educational principles, this role encourages imagination, creativity, and self-confidence while fostering clear thinking and positive social interactions. The teacher will guide students in Grades 10-12 within the performing arts, facilitate thoughtful media exploration, and assist in shaping meaningful future opportunities that enhance student expression, critical thinking, discernment, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Curriculum
- Develop and execute engaging drama lessons that cultivate creativity, confidence, and storytelling skills.
- Direct class plays and manage theatrical productions, integrating elements of art, music, and movement.
- Design and present age-appropriate lessons centered on media literacy to encourage critical thinking and healthy engagement with technology.
- Instruct Grade 12 students in Career Life Education.
- Tailor Waldorf educational practices into lessons that meet the developmental needs of each grade, transforming them into comprehensive career and life goals.

Collaboration & Community
- Work closely with colleagues to incorporate drama and media into the broader curriculum.
- Participate in school festivals, performances, and events, enhancing the artistic community spirit.
- Maintain open lines of communication with colleagues, parents, and guardians regarding student achievements and classroom activities.

Professionalism & Development
- Keep accurate records of student progress and reporting.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training in Waldorf teaching methods and the arts.
- Attend faculty meetings, committees, and collaborative projects as needed.

Qualifications & Skills
- BC Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification through the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Certification Branch.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Theatre/Drama, Media Studies, or a related discipline is essential.
- Waldorf teacher training or a strong commitment to continuous Waldorf professional development.
- Experience in teaching drama, theatre, or media literacy to children or adolescents.
- Ability to direct class plays and oversee performance-based initiatives.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire students across a variety of ages and skill levels.
- A collaborative approach and a commitment to building positive relationships within the school community.
