Shamattawa Education Authority is seeking applications for the position of High School Generalist Teacher. Located on the north shore where the God’s and Echoing Rivers converge, Shamattawa First Nation is 1277 kilometers from Winnipeg and 365 kilometers from Thompson by air. This lively community, home to around 1500 residents, primarily speaks Cree and is defined by its remote and isolated nature, accessible solely by air and a seasonal winter road.
Our modern school, inaugurated on January 18th, 2016, serves students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, offering a distinctive and fulfilling environment for committed educators. The locale presents both exhilarating outdoor and classroom experiences, with local pastimes such as hunting moose, caribou, and geese being widely enjoyed. Fishing enthusiasts can find an abundance of species including Northern Pike, Whitefish, Sturgeon, and Brook Trout. The stunning landscapes in spring and fall, alongside winter sports like ice skating at the school’s rink, enrich the community experience. The Traditional Treaty Days festival in late June is a yearly highlight, fostering a vibrant atmosphere.
Applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate. Furthermore, candidates are required to provide clear Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry checks.
