About This Role

We are on the lookout for an outstanding Head of EYFS to join our dedicated team. This pivotal position involves ensuring the school's Vision and Mission are upheld while managing all policies, academic excellence, and pastoral care within the Primary school.

Key Purpose

In close collaboration with the Principal and Head of Primary, the Head of EYFS will be responsible for the daily management and strategic direction of the Primary school.

The successful applicant will lead and oversee progress tracking, support curriculum planning, champion Behaviour for Learning initiatives, and actively engage with parents to fulfill the school's vision.

Main Purpose

The Head of EYFS will play a crucial role in:

  • Advocating and embodying the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
  • Guaranteeing that high academic standards thrive within the Early Years school, in line with the school's ambition for every student to achieve their full potential, as well as the UAE National Agenda targets.
  • Formulating the school’s aims and objectives.
  • Creating policies to attain these aims and objectives.
  • Efficiently managing staff and resources.
  • Monitoring progress toward achieving the school's aims and objectives.
  • Overseeing budgets and executing teaching and professional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
  • Contributing to the creation and execution of the school's educational strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities

School Culture and Behaviour

  • Promote and nurture the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
  • Work closely with the Head of Primary to implement effective, globally relevant learning and teaching practices that align with the school's vision for quality education.
  • Foster an environment where students enjoy a positive and enriching school experience.
  • Maintain educational standards that prepare students from diverse backgrounds for their next stages of education and life.
  • Ensure a culture of professionalism among staff.
  • Encourage high student behavior standards, based on clear rules and routines understood by both staff and students, and modeled by all adults in the school.
  • Implement consistent and fair methods for managing behavior, in accordance with the school’s behavior policy.

Teaching, Curriculum, and Assessment

  • Establish and maintain high-quality teaching across all subjects and phases, guided by evidence.
  • Ensure that teaching is bolstered by subject expertise.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation systems to assess teaching and learning standards, executing necessary improvement strategies.
  • Ensure a broad, structured, and coherent curriculum is delivered.
  • Create curriculum leadership roles, including subject leaders with relevant expertise and access to professional networks.
  • Utilize valid and reliable methods to assess students' knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.

Additional and Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disabilities

  • Promote a culture and practices that enable all students to access the curriculum.
  • Set ambitious expectations for all students with SEN and disabilities.
  • Ensure effective partnerships with parents to identify additional needs and provide the necessary support and adaptations.
