About This Role

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

RIS is seeking a passionate and dynamic Elementary/Middle School Japanese teacher for our Elementary and Middle School programs. This position will focus on leading, inspiring, and enhancing student learning. The primary responsibilities include teaching Middle School Japanese courses for beginner and intermediate levels, along with Grade 5 Exploratory Japanese.

Candidates should be experienced, certified educators currently involved at the upper Elementary or Middle School levels. A strong understanding of subject-specific content, effective inquiry-based teaching methods, differentiation, and assessment strategies is essential for this role. Applicants should have experience in collaborative curriculum development and be adept at unit planning through backward design. Regular collaboration with department colleagues, subject area teachers, and school leadership is expected to tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.

NECESSARY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Passion for engaging upper Elementary and Middle School students
  • Certification and experience in teaching Japanese language and culture at the upper Elementary or Middle School level
  • Proven success in enhancing students’ skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Japanese
  • Ability to plan and deliver high-quality Japanese language lessons aligned with curriculum standards (ACTFL framework)
  • Employ a variety of instructional methods to foster language acquisition and cultural appreciation
  • Engage with the school community through events and traditions, such as the Japanese Festival
  • Knowledge of best practices in:
    • Inquiry-based learning
    • Differentiation for diverse learners
    • Assessment for student learning
  • Proven capability to design and implement successful academic programs
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Skill in utilizing data to ensure instruction meets all students' needs
  • Strong communication skills with students, parents, teachers, and stakeholders
  • Experience in collaborative curriculum design and backward planning
  • Collaborative engagement with:
    • Department team members
    • Grade-level teachers
    • Elementary and Middle School leadership
  • Familiarity with technology tools in education
  • Proven ability to thrive in a multicultural environment
  • Possess a growth mindset and a positive outlook

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Elementary or Middle School license or certification for teaching Japanese
  • A minimum of two years of experience teaching at an accredited Secondary School
  • Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, Japanese Language Education, World Languages, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in Japanese, Japanese Language Education, World Languages, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Japanese (native or near-native fluency)

Compensation

Minimum= BA+Cert/Step 2. Maximum= Doctorate/Step 11. The above salaries are NOT paid in US Dollars. They are paid in Thai Baht. Currency fluctuations may mean that the US dollar figures may be higher or lower. 15-25% is deducted from the salary for taxes.
