The Opportunity:
We are seeking a full-time, permanent English and Individual & Societies (History and/or Geography) Teacher to join our Middle School team. In a culture that prioritizes social-emotional learning along with diversity, equity, and inclusion, the ideal candidate will demonstrate empathy, innovation, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to build supportive connections with both students and colleagues. The selected applicant will play a vital role in both the English and Individuals and Societies Departments, reporting indirectly to the Head of Middle School. This opening is due to a current vacancy, with an anticipated start date of August 2026.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Fostering a classroom environment that nurtures social-emotional learning and promotes student development and personal growth.
- Guiding students in developing the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for a strong educational foundation, tailored to individual capabilities.
- Inspiring a love for language and literature in young learners.
- Building strong relationships with parents, faculty, and staff.
- Ensuring that the written, taught, and assessed curriculum meets both IB and Ministry of Education standards, incorporating differentiation strategies.
- Designing culturally relevant, inclusive, and responsive English and History and/or Geography curricula for a diverse student body.
- Promoting interdisciplinary understanding through collaborative units of inquiry with faculty from various disciplines.
- Developing course outlines, unit plans, and lesson plans that encompass all aspects of the IB Middle Years Program curricula, focusing on inquiry-based and interdisciplinary learning.
- Maintaining accurate records as required by the Ministry, IBO, and school policies.
- Regularly updating students, colleagues, and parents on student progress, including formal communications such as report cards and parent-teacher meetings.
- Keeping abreast of best practices in subject areas and teaching methodologies through professional reading, workshops, and other opportunities for growth.
- Actively participating in faculty and department/Middle School meetings and collaborating with course teams to plan, review, and enhance the written curriculum.
- Engaging in co-curricular activities and supervision responsibilities.
- Serving as an Advisor, guiding students through regular meetings.

Candidate Profile:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher, specializing in English and History and/or Geography, and a valid Ontario College of Teachers certification (or equivalent) with I/S qualifications in English and History and/or Geography.
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with IB programs is a significant advantage.
- A commitment to adapting teaching methods to suit the unique needs of Middle School students.
- Strong skills in curriculum development and assessment practices that are age-appropriate and relevant to different stages.
- A relational educator who effectively integrates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching techniques into their instruction.
- Experience or a commitment to embedding equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging principles in curriculum design and instructional strategies.
- A collaborative mindset and openness to new ideas.
- Proficient in relevant technology and comfortable working in a laptop and online setting.
- Skilled in utilizing technology to deliver educational programs and communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader community.
- A belief in and alignment with Branksome Hall’s mission, vision, and values; passionate about teaching and dedicated to serving students and the community.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision while also being an effective team contributor.

Target Hiring Range:
Placement on the Branksome Hall Faculty Salary Grid is determined by years of relevant teaching experience, educational qualifications, and Additional Qualifications (AQs). The grid ranges from $70,903.08 – $101,270.67 for up to 6 years of applicable experience and $101,615.33 – $134,998.82 for more than 6 years of applicable experience.
