Position Overview: We are in search of an enthusiastic and dedicated Educator to become part of our team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in developing and executing educational programs that honor diversity, advance equity, and recognize the rich cultural heritage of our community. A strong dedication to indigenization, a competency-based curriculum, and a creative approach to land-based education are essential for this role.
Responsibilities:
Course Development: Work collaboratively with fellow educators, Elders, and community stakeholders to create and execute a competency-based curriculum that is grounded in Indigenous knowledge and values.
Cultural Inclusion: Cultivate a learning environment that values and integrates diverse Indigenous viewpoints, ensuring that the curriculum is reflective of the local Indigenous culture.
Equity and Inclusion: Develop and apply strategies that advance equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing inequities and fostering a sense of belonging for all students.
Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and the community, actively seeking input, collaboration, and feedback to continuously enhance educational programs.
Land-Based Education: Create and incorporate land-based learning experiences into the curriculum, promoting a strong connection to the land and traditional practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education
Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate
The following criteria will be vital considerations during the hiring process:
A solid understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.
Experience in applying inquiry-based instructional approaches.
Experience in curriculum implementation, emphasizing competency-based education.
Experience in competency-based assessment and evaluation.
A proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Familiarity with the Inclusive Schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.
Knowledge of principles and practices related to land-based education.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
