Required Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to fulfill every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly regarded.

Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience in education that supports Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles
- Background in teaching within bilingual or ESL contexts
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canada educational environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Experience employing current assessment methods to steer learning
- Proven ability to create a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- History of building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Experience promoting student well-being and engagement
- Involvement with students beyond the classroom setting, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Ability to work cooperatively within a school team

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (dependent on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Candidates from outside Nunavut are required to provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
