We are seeking a talented elementary school teacher to spearhead visual arts education. The Art program is led by a specialist from Kindergarten to Grade 7, with this position primarily focusing on students in Grades 1-5. You will become part of a collaborative teaching team committed to encouraging the positive growth and development of young girls in the Junior School. This role will consist of 0.75FTE in Art instruction and 0.25FTE in Primary Teacher Support.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a warm and inviting environment that promotes learning for young students
  • Teach Art in the Junior School, concentrating on Grades 1–5, while designing engaging and interactive classes (0.75 teaching responsibilities)
  • Provide small group instruction in primary classrooms that enhances early literacy and/or numeracy skills, collaborating with Learning Resources and classroom teachers (0.25 teaching responsibilities)
  • Ensure a seamless learning experience both vertically and horizontally across the Junior School in partnership with colleagues
  • Collaborate with all Junior School teachers to address student needs within Art and Primary Classrooms
  • Implement and integrate educational technology to enhance learning
  • Deliver the BC Curriculum for Art Education
  • Actively engage in the Junior School co-curricular and Athletics program
  • Fully participate in the CHS Teacher Professional Growth Plan

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification
  • Relevant university qualifications, preferably at the graduate level (e.g., Bachelor of Education plus Bachelor of Visual Arts or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of how to accommodate diverse learning styles at the elementary level
  • Collaborative, energetic, and passionate about teaching
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Demonstrated capacity to be innovative, adaptable, and highly organized with a keen attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, and readiness to engage in the co-curricular program and the vibrant life of the school community
