Role Overview

Every staff member at GUIS is responsible for ensuring a safe and developmentally suitable environment, in line with the GUIS program philosophy, as well as school policies and procedures. The teacher's role at GUIS is crucial in delivering exceptional instruction and supporting both the academic and personal development of students. In alignment with the institution's vision and core values, the teacher must cultivate a supportive, engaging, and inclusive educational environment that inspires student achievement, intellectual curiosity, and a love of learning.

Primary Responsibilities:

Safeguarding and Wellbeing:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all stakeholders while promoting positive behavior.
  • Follow GUIS's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.

Core Responsibilities

According to A Level teaching standards, teachers are expected to:

  • Develop and implement well-structured, engaging lesson plans.
  • Adjust teaching strategies to accommodate the diverse strengths and needs of students.
  • Evaluate, monitor, and document student progress, using data-informed instructional methods to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Establish a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that supports growth for all students.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school's curriculum and teaching strategies.
  • Recognize the significance of enhancing literacy and oracy skills across all subjects.

Whole-School Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of school policies, practices, and procedures that align with the school's vision and values, with a particular focus on the social and emotional well-being of students.
  • Engage in the broader life and ethos of the school, including extracurricular programs and events.
  • Attend up to six marketing events during the academic year, as needed.
  • Provide coverage for fellow teachers when requested.

Specific Division Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Load: A maximum of 18 lessons per week (60 minutes each).
  • Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): All teachers are required to lead two unpaid sessions each week. Those with stipend responsibilities must conduct one unpaid session weekly.
  • Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 15:55 to 16:40.
  • Homeroom Duty: Teachers may be required to assume the HRS (unpaid) role as necessary.
  • Marketing & Admissions Days: Up to six unpaid days may be required to assist with marketing activities.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

  • An internationally recognized teaching qualification.
  • Proficiency in the language of instruction.
  • Strong curriculum knowledge and subject expertise in relevant subject area(s).
  • Capability to design and deliver engaging, well-organized lessons tailored to student needs.
  • Effective classroom management skills, ensuring a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, fostering effective collaboration with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a readiness to enhance teaching practices.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the school and its students.
  • Alignment with the school's vision and values.
