Residential Assistant Houseparent
About This Role
This is a live-in residential role where the individual will be tasked with ensuring the safeguarding, welfare, and security of students in collaboration with the Houseparent (HP) and the House team.
The responsibilities may encompass any or all of the following duties. Primarily, we seek a Residential Assistant Houseparent (RAHP) who is generous with their time and attuned to the needs of the students. The following list is not exhaustive, and the scope of tasks will include various incidents and situations that may arise, requiring initiative and common sense to navigate.
The ideal candidate should enjoy working with young people and possess sound judgment. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for engaging effectively with both students and their parents or guardians. This includes being a good listener, maintaining a flexible outlook, being reliable, and exhibiting a warm and friendly demeanor, alongside the sensitivity to exercise tact and diplomacy. A sense of humor and a calm temperament are also vital for managing all situations in a cooperative and considerate manner.
The nature of this role demands physical fitness and a good level of stamina. It is acknowledged that each House may have a slightly different framework for the position, depending on specific circumstances, strengths, and skills of the individual post holders. The role will differ based on whether the RAHP is assigned to a junior or senior House, typically requiring 4 out of 5 weekday afternoons with one full day off during the week. Additionally, there are two evening duties, with associated overnight on-call responsibilities. Weekend obligations are roughly 2 out of 3 weekends, along with some tutoring support at various times throughout the weekend.
