Aldar Education is currently in search of an exceptional Assistant Head of the Mathematics department to join Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi for the upcoming academic year 2026-2027.

Responsibilities

Main Duties

- Lead the development and resource management for the curriculum within a Key Stage.
- Review and modify schemes of work to align with evolving pedagogical practices and curriculum requirements.
- Assist the Head of Department in enhancing teaching, learning, and assessment outcomes.
- Ensure that students are thoroughly prepared for examinations and assessments.
- Identify staffing and resource requirements, managing teaching resources effectively.
- Keep the department updated on relevant curriculum advancements.
- Organize enrichment activities and events to boost student engagement.
- Ensure standardized departmental practices, including assessment and assignment setting.
- Participate in staff recruitment, performance management, and professional development, including onboarding.
- Monitor teaching standards through lesson observations and departmental evaluations.
- Support, guide, and inspire team members, ensuring effective communication within the department.
- Track student progress, identify areas of underachievement, and implement targeted interventions.
- Maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
- Represent the department in cross-curricular initiatives.
- Step in for the Head of Department as needed and take on additional agreed responsibilities.

Strategic Direction & Development

- Develop and enforce policies that guarantee high-quality outcomes across all key stages.
- Evaluate teaching, learning, and departmental practices, assessing their impact on student progress and pinpointing areas for enhancement.
- Foster a positive ethos, promote high achievement, and encourage staff commitment to shared objectives.
- Contribute to a cohesive department development plan that aligns with whole-school priorities.

Learning & Teaching

- Monitor student progress through data analysis, observations, work reviews, and feedback from stakeholders.
- Identify staff development needs via performance management and ensure appropriate support is provided.
- Implement strategies, including innovative technologies, to enhance teaching and learning.
- Demonstrate exemplary classroom practice and engage external expertise when beneficial.

Leadership & Staff Management

- Establish clear expectations and cultivate effective professional relationships.
- Appropriately delegate responsibilities and support staff development.
- Lead performance management processes aimed at boosting effectiveness.
- Promote a collaborative, high-performing team culture.

Resources & Operations

- Support the effective recruitment, deployment, and organization of staff and resources.
- Maintain a safe, well-managed, and stimulating learning environment.
- Ensure efficient resource utilization and value for money within the department.

Coordination of an Agreed Upon Keystage

- Collaborate with the Head of Department to lead the delegation of management tasks within a specified keystage, such as:
- Ensuring consistency in assessments and homework
- Overseeing set changes
- Updating schemes of learning

Minimum Qualifications

- BA Degree in Mathematics with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

Minimum Experience

- At least 6 years of teaching experience.

- Previous experience working with students for whom Mathematics is not their first language.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
