About This Role

About Lumio:

Lumio Private School is a not-for-profit international institution located in Cyprus, established in 2024. Our vision is straightforward: Happy children, learning together. We are cultivating an energetic learning community on a modern campus near Paphos, designed to ignite curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.

We take pride in providing:

Modern classrooms

State-of-the-art science and IT laboratories

Specialized spaces for arts and performance

Extensive sports facilities and extracurricular options

The Role:

We are in search of a Design Teacher who can effectively teach both Product Design and Digital Design within the IB MYP framework, preferably through a unified and integrated methodology. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in design thinking as a clear, teachable process and will be able to make this thinking accessible to students.

This position transcends merely following a set curriculum. We seek an educator who views design as a journey—integrating digital thought, physical prototyping, systems thinking, and iterative processes—and who can lead students through impactful, real-world design challenges. They should be comfortable with ambiguity and open-ended issues, adept at balancing creative liberties with purposeful guidance.

While familiarity with the IB MYP Design framework is advantageous, we are not exclusively seeking a certified IB Design instructor. We are particularly keen on candidates who exhibit strong design thinking, practical technical skills, and the ability to seamlessly connect digital and physical design practices within the classroom. Experience in Product Design, Digital Design, or a closely related area is highly appreciated.

Key responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and evaluate high-quality, inquiry-based Design lessons that align with the IB MYP Design objectives and assessment criteria.

Create authentic and engaging inquiry units that merge Digital Design and Product Design with conceptual understanding and pertinent global contexts.

Guide students through the MYP Design Cycle, encouraging experimentation, problem-solving, iteration, and reflective practices.

Assist students in developing and applying design thinking, technical abilities, and systems thinking through meaningful, real-world design projects.

Deliver constructive and timely feedback to enhance student progress, independence, and developing design literacy, focusing on formative feedback that promotes iteration rather than just final outcomes.

Establish a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment that values process, experimentation, and student creations.

Utilize tools, materials, and equipment commonly employed in design and prototyping, ensuring safe, purposeful, and well-managed hands-on learning experiences.

Effectively manage long-term, project-based learning, scaffolding complex design processes without overly directing student outcomes.

Maintain accurate documentation, assessment records, and reporting in accordance with IB expectations and school procedures.

Create opportunities for exhibitions, showcases, and project presentations that highlight student learning and design achievements.

Collaborate with peers to foster interdisciplinary learning, STEM initiatives, and school-wide projects.

Engage in IB training, professional development, and ongoing curriculum planning.

Adhere to school policies, ensure student well-being, and embody the school’s values and mission.

Teaching & Learning Approach:

Design learning experiences that promote inquiry, experimentation, reflection, and iteration.

Assist students in managing open-ended, long-term design projects, guiding them in planning, testing, refining, and evaluating their work.

Differentiate instruction to accommodate various abilities, interests, and learning styles, ensuring inclusive access to open-ended design challenges.

Encourage independence, responsibility, and confidence among young designers.

Translate complex design concepts and tools into clear, age-appropriate learning experiences for MYP students.

Help students explicitly integrate conceptual understanding, ATL skills, and global contexts into practical design work.

Collaboration & School Life:

Collaborate with colleagues across Design, Computer Science, Science, and other subject areas.

Contribute to interdisciplinary learning and broader STEM-focused initiatives.

Participate in school events, exhibitions, and activities that celebrate student learning.

When appropriate, contribute to after-school clubs, enrichment activities, or project-based STEM opportunities, assisting students who wish to explore design and technology beyond the classroom.

Support or mentor students interested in extended design challenges, competitions, or enrichment paths beyond the core curriculum.

Positively contribute to the professional and collaborative culture of the school.

Professional Growth & Support:

Engage in ongoing professional development, including IB training as necessary.

Reflect on teaching practices and contribute to shared departmental resources and curriculum development.

Stay open to feedback, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

Exhibit curiosity and adaptability, remaining updated on developments in design, digital tools, and contemporary design practices.

Candidate Profile:

Possess a Bachelor's degree in ICT, Product or Digital Design, or a related field. An advanced degree (MSc, MEd, PhD) will be viewed favorably.

Previous IB experience is appreciated but not mandatory. The school provides support for teachers enhancing their understanding of the IB framework.

Communicate fluently in English and thrive in diverse, international environments.

View design as a process driven by inquiry, not merely a technical discipline.

Bring enthusiasm, flexibility, and a spirit of collaboration to the educational environment.

Feel comfortable navigating ambiguity and open-ended challenges.

Maintain a thoughtful balance between structure and creative freedom.

Possess a reflective, collaborative, and student-centered approach.

We offer:

An exceptional opportunity to join a newly established international school, where you will gain valuable professional experience and enhance innovative problem-solving skills alongside a team of experienced educators.

The freedom to shape your teaching style, utilizing your distinctive skill set and personalized methodologies to create a lasting impact on student learning.

Comprehensive relocation support, including financial aid for travel, assistance with securing accommodation, guidance throughout the migration process, and significant discounts on tuition fees for your children.

Full legal assistance during the migration process, with additional support available for accompanying family members. This includes a guaranteed two-year work contract for stability and peace of mind.

A competitive salary, negotiable based on your qualifications and professional experience.
