About This Role

Role Overview

The EAL Teacher plays an essential role within the British Summer School teaching team, tasked with providing exceptional English language instruction while actively participating in the enrichment programme. This position is vibrant and hands-on, demanding enthusiasm, creativity, and a sincere dedication to fostering student growth both in and out of the classroom. The British Summer School is scheduled from 18 July to 12 August 2026, with INSET training beginning on 16 July.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Delivery & Engagement


Facilitate and support learning sessions, workshops, or activities that form part of the broader programme


Offer ideas and skills beyond traditional teaching, incorporating creative, experiential, or project-based initiatives


Tailor delivery methods to accommodate various age groups, abilities, and learning preferences


Encourage student engagement, participation, and personal growth

Collaboration & Contribution


Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the delivery of a cohesive, high-quality educational programme


Engage in daily briefings and contribute to planning, reflection, and programme enhancement


Demonstrate flexibility and readiness to assist in different areas of the programme as needed

Activities & Student Experience


Support and oversee activities, events, and excursions, including weekends as necessary


Serve as a positive role model and represent the programme in a professional manner at all times


Help foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging atmosphere for students

Pastoral & Community Support


Promote student wellbeing and positive behaviour throughout the duration of the programme


Assist with supervision responsibilities (e.g., meals, evenings, residential duties) on a rotational basis


Cultivate positive relationships with students and contribute to a strong community within the programme

Person Specification

Essential:


Qualified teacher status (QTS, PGCE) or recognized TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certification


Experience teaching English to speakers of other languages


Native or near-native proficiency in English


Enthusiastic, adaptable, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced residential setting


Strong classroom and behaviour management abilities


Excellent interpersonal and communication skills


A true passion for engaging with young people


Enhanced DBS check or equivalent background clearance (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable:


Experience in summer schools or residential programmes


Additional skills in sports coaching, performing arts, outdoor education, or creative subjects


Experience working with international students from various cultural backgrounds


First Aid certification

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
