About This Role

Epsom College Malaysia is seeking a fully qualified and experienced Physical Education teacher to deliver a broad and varied sports curriculum across all Key Stages. The role involves designing and leading PE, Games, and swimming lessons; coaching teams; and supporting fixtures and large tournaments. The successful candidate will contribute to extensive co-curricular clubs before and after school. There is also the opportunity to specialise in a sport, subject to department needs, and to deliver lessons across the school, coach teams, manage local, Kuala Lumpur, and overseas fixtures, mentor students, and share best practice.

There is also an opportunity to be appointed as Head of Department. Candidates who aspire to take on the role of Head of PE are preferred.

Academic Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Implement the PE curriculum across all year groups, with experience teaching both PE and academic PE, ensuring a consistent and high-quality learning experience for students throughout the School.

  • Multi-Sport Expertise: Demonstrate exceptional proficiency and coaching talent in a diverse range of sports that include but are not limited to Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Swimming, and (Touch) Rugby. By bringing your versatile skill set to the role, you will be expected to engage effectively and coach across various sports within the school’s comprehensive sports program.

  • Teaching Excellence: Demonstrate teaching excellence by employing innovative and student-centred instructional methods, fostering a love for PE, sport, and physical activity.

  • Student Engagement: Actively engage students in sports activities, encouraging participation, decision-making, tactical awareness, skill development, and a commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.

  • Inclusive Teaching: Foster an inclusive learning environment that accommodates students of diverse abilities, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed and enjoy sports.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues in the PE department and across the school, to share best practices, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in the planning/organising/execution of sports events.

  • Classroom management: maintain good order and discipline amongst all pupils, in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy. Maintain an organised tidy work space.

  • Assessment and Progress Tracking: Implement effective assessment strategies and utilise tracking tools to monitor and evaluate student progress in sports, providing constructive feedback to support their development.

  • Co-curricular Involvement: Contribute to co-curricular sports activities, including coaching and organising teams for competitions, enhancing the overall sports culture within the school. Contribute actively to our Saturday Sports activities, particularly during weekends without fixtures, emphasising squad/team development. This may encompass organising internal sporting tournaments and/or leading training sessions.

  • Health and Safety: Prioritise the safety and well-being of students during PE and sports activities, adhering to established safety protocols and ensuring a secure environment.

  • Continuous Professional Development: Actively engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities to stay informed about current trends, coaching techniques, and advancements in sports education.

  • Parent Communication: Maintain effective communication with parents, providing updates on students' progress, and upcoming sports events, and fostering positive engagement in their children's sports education. Write comprehensive reports on students' performance, providing valuable insights into their achievements and areas for improvement, ensuring its alignment with current teaching practices and educational innovations.

  • Fixtures: Participate in midweek and occasional Saturday fixtures, demonstrating a commitment to supporting and coaching students during sports competitions outside regular school hours.

  • Flexibility: Demonstrate flexibility by providing cover for lessons within the department during planned staff absences and emergencies. Additionally, exhibit adaptability to coach teams beyond the usual scope in alignment with the evolving demands of the department and specific sporting events.

  • Sporting Residential Involvement: Attend sporting residential events, when required, actively participating in and overseeing the sports-related activities, including staying overnight when required to ensure the well-being and supervision of students during extended sports programs.

  • Professional Duties and Responsibilities: Fulfil professional duties and responsibilities as outlined by the school, actively participating in and contributing to whole school events to promote a collaborative and cohesive School community.

  • Meetings: Attend regular departmental meetings to contribute to curriculum planning and improvement initiatives.


Essential Skills and Abilities

  • A strong honours degree

  • An accredited teaching qualification

  • Evidence of either being or having the potential to be an excellent teacher

  • Native speaker level of English in all forms of communication

  • The ability to inspire and motivate children

  • An ability and willingness to make a significant contribution to the co-curricular life of the School

  • An ability to relate well to colleagues, children, and parents

  • Approachability, accessibility, and flexibility

  • A high level of organisation and communication skills

  • Sympathy with the values and needs of working in a boarding environment


Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in a boarding school

  • Experience teaching in Pre-Prep, Prep, and Senior School settings

  • High levels of competence in a range of traditional British sports

  • Coaching and or officiating qualifications in at least one major sport

Compensation
