Contract Term: Until July 2026, with the possibility of a 2-year extension thereafter.
Situated in Hatyai, a vibrant city in southern Thailand, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai provides a co-educational International Independent School experience. Established in 2014, we deliver a British curriculum to both day and boarding students. Our Secondary School, which currently serves approximately 80 students, is expanding rapidly due to our growing reputation. We pride ourselves on being a nurturing and supportive team, committed to helping every student achieve their utmost potential. Our students are eager to succeed, and all interactions within the school community are grounded in mutual respect.
We have proudly received full accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS), making us one of only 20 schools in Thailand to hold this distinction.
The Position
Our Secondary department has earned a reputation for excellence in the local community, and we are seeking a new teacher to further enhance this tradition of good practice. Utilizing the Cambridge curriculum, we offer Maths at IGCSE, AS, and A Level. In 2023, a Bloomsbury student was awarded the Top in Thailand accolade for A Level Further Maths. Students from Year 5 and above are encouraged to bring their own devices to school, and we fully integrate Technology for Learning into our teaching. A key responsibility will be to enhance English comprehension across all lessons, as most of our students speak English as an additional language, while ensuring that we convey content clearly to facilitate excellent qualifications.
Our students thrive in this joyful, industrious school environment. They show admiration and respect towards adults, making teaching here a fulfilling experience. We expect our staff to uphold our high standards regarding student wellbeing and to actively promote academic excellence.
As a close-knit school, every staff member plays a crucial role in our team. Our teachers and support staff are hardworking, dedicated, and compassionate.
Key Information
All international staff members are required to be completely fluent in English and adept in utilizing technology for educational purposes. Participation in the school community, including engagement with pupils in extracurricular activities, is expected.
The ideal candidate will:
• Hold English qualified teacher status or an equivalent qualification.
• Have experience teaching GCSE or IGCSE Maths.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Be dedicated to addressing the needs of students for whom English is an additional language.
Location
Hatyai is located in southern Thailand, just a 40-minute drive from the nearest beach in Songkhla Town and conveniently accessible to Krabi, Phuket, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Koh Samui, and Koh Lipe, as well as Penang and Langkawi across the Malaysian border. The international airport offers 16 daily flights to Bangkok and daily connections to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, both of which are a short distance away, allowing for easy exploration of the wider Asian region. It is simple to spend weekends or holidays discovering this beautiful area.
Hatyai is an emerging city that maintains a lower cost of living compared to other popular destinations in Thailand. The city features large Western-style malls and supermarkets, as well as a variety of bars and restaurants offering international cuisine, while still retaining a distinctly 'Thai' atmosphere with friendly locals who greet newcomers with the famous 'Thai Smile'.
