About This Role

Join our team as a Science and A Level Chemistry Teacher in Madrid.

You will be responsible for teaching general science at KS3 and IGCSE levels, along with A-Level chemistry, in a school that prioritizes science education. With small class sizes, well-equipped laboratories, and a dedicated team that values the subject, you'll prepare students to pursue degrees in Medicine, Engineering, and Biomedical Sciences at prestigious universities throughout Europe and the UK.

Holy Mary is an independent British Catholic school located in Madrid, established in 2009. Unlike corporate chains, we operate independently, allowing for local decision-making that reduces bureaucracy and provides you the freedom to teach in your preferred style.

Why choose Madrid?

Madrid stands out as one of the most vibrant cities in Europe, boasting 300 sunny days a year, an exceptional culinary scene, efficient public transport, and a lower cost of living compared to other capitals like London or Dublin. The city hosts a lively international community, offers direct flights to various European capitals, and presents an unparalleled quality of life.

Many educators who initially plan to stay for just a year find themselves living here for many years.

What we provide:

• Salary: 34,000 — 42,000 EUR gross/year (depending on experience and qualifications).

• Contract: Permanent from day one (‘contrato indefinido’ in accordance with Spanish labor law).

• Professional development: Annual CPD program, funded training opportunities, and chances to lead departmental projects.

• A comprehensive relocation and benefits package for international candidates (details to be discussed during the interview).

• Visa and paperwork assistance: We offer full support with work permits and local regulations, guiding you through the process and reimbursing any related costs.

Why choose Holy Mary?

We pride ourselves on being a family-oriented institution, not a corporate entity or part of a vast school chain. Founded by educators, we uphold family values in our operations.

What does this mean for you?

• You are valued as an individual; our headteacher knows each teacher personally. Discussions drive decision-making rather than impersonal HR systems.

• Students are eager to learn, class sizes remain small, parental support is strong, and, on most days, behavior is commendable.

• Community is essential to us. We celebrate achievements together, provide mutual support, and preserve the unique culture that makes our school special.

• Our Catholic identity is integral to our community, influencing our values and interactions. We welcome staff from diverse cultures and backgrounds who resonate with our mission.

What we seek:

• QTS, PGCE, B.Ed, or an equivalent teaching qualification.

• A degree in chemistry or a closely related discipline.

• Experience in teaching IGCSE science and A-Level chemistry.

• A genuine passion for the subject and a dedication to supporting every student’s success.

• A commitment to safeguarding and prioritizing the welfare of children.

• We encourage British, EU, and international candidates to apply, as we assist with visa applications.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in a British international school and familiarity with Cambridge or Edexcel exam boards. However, if you are a skilled science teacher, we invite you to apply regardless.

How to apply:

Please send your CV and a brief cover letter to vacancies@holymary.es, detailing your interest in Holy Mary and what you can contribute to our science department.

We evaluate applications as they come in and conduct interviews promptly. Strong candidates may receive offers prior to any application deadlines.

Holy Mary British Catholic School is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All positions are subject to enhanced DBS and/or relevant police checks.
