About This Role
The Hamilton International School is on the lookout for a skilled and engaging Assistant Head of Primary: Student Life to deliver both strategic and operational leadership throughout the Primary phase.
This position is vital in fostering an environment where every student feels secure, valued, included, and empowered to flourish socially, emotionally, and behaviorally within a positive and aspirational school culture.
Reporting to the Head of Primary, the Assistant Head: Student Life will spearhead pastoral systems, student support services, and parental engagement, collaborating closely with educators and leaders to ensure optimal outcomes for all learners.
This role comprises a 50% teaching commitment alongside a 50% leadership allocation.
•
Oversee and manage school-wide initiatives for student wellbeing and positive behavior.
•
Track attendance and punctuality, implementing specific interventions as needed.
•
Coordinate student support services including Counseling, Inclusion/Learning Support, and EAL.
•
Supervise Grade Level Leaders responsible for pastoral care and Learning Assistants.
•
Facilitate student transitions within Primary and across divisions.
•
Serve as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) for the Primary sector.
•
Lead parent communication and meetings focused on wellbeing, behavior, and attendance.
•
Encourage restorative and preventative strategies for student support.
•
Organize assemblies, trips, student leadership activities, and key community events.
•
Contribute to strategic planning, accreditation, and adherence to ISP, NEASC, and MoEHE standards.
•
Promote staff professional development in pastoral care and safeguarding matters.
•
Demonstrate and teach high-quality classroom practices.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
•
Bachelor’s degree with an accredited teaching qualification.
•
At least 3 years of leadership experience in a Primary or elementary setting.
•
Demonstrated success in leading teaching and learning, curriculum development, and assessment.
•
Experience in coaching educators and facilitating professional learning.
Knowledge & Skills
•
Deep understanding of effective Primary pedagogy and curriculum design.
•
Experience utilizing student performance data (e.g., MAP) to foster improvement.
•
Capability to lead and nurture subject and instructional teams.
•
Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
•
High proficiency in ICT, including Student Information Systems and assessment platforms.
•
Experience within an American or American-international curriculum (preferred).
