About This Role
The College Counselor is responsible for creating and managing a program designed to support students in grades 10-12 with their college planning efforts. This encompasses academic preparation for college, fulfilling graduation and college admission requirements, college searches, financial aid applications, scholarship opportunities, and testing.
• Aid in the creation, production, and distribution of school handbooks and related materials.
• Oversee the administration of PSAT and ACER tests.
• Contribute to the school newsletter on a periodic basis when relevant.
• Maintain documentation of students’ progress toward graduation through credit evaluations.
• Inform students and parents about graduation progress via annual credit check letters.
• Assist in selecting suitable academic courses, such as IB or UNL courses.
• Develop a guidebook for colleges and universities.
• Organize, announce, and facilitate visits from college and university representatives to the school.
• Coordinate participation in college fairs.
• Serve as an advocate for students within the college/university admissions process.
• Conduct workshops for students and their parents on college/university applications.
• Update college and university catalogs and informational materials.
• Provide group guidance on the college/university application process, including essay writing, admissions tests, extracurricular activities, and other requirements.
• Distribute information related to colleges and universities, such as financial aid, scholarships, and summer study programs.
• Schedule one-on-one meetings with students and parents regarding college planning.
• Prepare necessary school documents for college/university applications, including transcripts and school profiles.
• Write letters of recommendation to accompany college/university applications.
• Ensure that teachers submit their recommendations for students to colleges/universities by the specified deadlines.
• Assist students in choosing fields of study that will support their career aspirations.
• Host informational evenings for parents, students, and faculty as needed.
• Support the admissions process as required.
Key Responsibilities
