About This Role

Job Purpose
This position focuses on cultivating a dynamic, inclusive, and nurturing classroom atmosphere where students can acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for both academic achievement and personal development. The teacher will engage collaboratively within the school community, embody the school’s values, and make a positive impact on its overall environment.

Job Responsibilities
A) Teaching & Learning
• Design and implement well-organized, innovative, and tailored lessons for primary students.
• Employ a variety of teaching methods and resources to inspire and challenge learners.
• Regularly and accurately assess, record, and communicate students’ progress.
• Tailor instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs, including EAL and SEND students.
• Utilize data to guide teaching strategies and deliver focused support.
• Promote a positive classroom atmosphere characterized by respect, encouragement, and high standards.
• Evaluate student learning on a lesson-by-lesson basis, using assessment information to establish targets and monitor progress.
• Adhere to the school’s teaching and learning standards as outlined in the School’s Policy.

B) Pastoral Care
• Assist in the social, emotional, and moral development of all students.
• Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Encourage student independence, resilience, and accountability.
• Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's learning and well-being.
• Actively engage in all facets of school life and contribute to a supportive and inclusive school culture.

C) Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
• Engage actively in staff meetings, CPD sessions, school events, and extracurricular programs.
• Collaborate with year group and subject teams to ensure curriculum coherence.
• Maintain current planning, reporting, and assessment documentation.
• Contribute to a positive and inclusive school environment.

D) Community Contribution
• Support the vision and ethos of Durham School by fostering teamwork, collaboration, and professionalism.
• Build strong relationships with parents and guardians to enhance involvement in school life and learning.
• Assist with broader school activities and events as needed.
• Stay informed about school communications and calendars, meeting deadlines set by the SLT or Principal.
• Comply with the School’s policies and dress code, following reasonable directions from school leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education or a related curriculum field. Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education with QTS where applicable.

Experience
At least 2 years of teaching experience in the British Curriculum in a comparable position.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
