About This Role

Immaculate Heart Catholic Primary School a Voluntary Academy of St Gregory the Great Multi-Academy Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and creative SEND Learning Support Assistant to work on a one to one level with a pupil with complex needs including Autism. Your role will be to support the pupil and to ensure that they access the curriculum and reach their full potential. This is a varied role that will require flexibility and a positive attitude. Starting as soon as possible, this is a full-time fixed term role.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed SEND Learning Support Assistant to make a difference to a pupil’s experience of education.

To be considered for SEND Learning Support Assistant position, you will have:

  • An understanding of Autism and the ability to adapt tasks to severe cognitive delays, poor motor skills, and sensory-seeking behaviours.
  • Proficiency in using non-verbal communication tools—such as pictorial cues, signing, and pointing—and the ability to break down instructions into very small, simple steps
  • The capacity to provide constant, highly focused 1:1 supervision across all school environments
  • The patience to gently support a child who tires easily, alongside the ability to recognise and soothe distress when they become overwhelmed, withdrawn, or unable to verbalise feelings.
  • The ability to remain completely regulated and composed when the child is experiencing distress or overstimulation.
  • A proactive approach to facilitating peer interactions and a dedication to maintaining daily, detailed communication between home and school to monitor ongoing physical and learning requirements.
  • Understanding of EHCP Implementation: Experience working directly from an EHCP to implement specific, measurable targets and adapting daily learning to suit a child’s immediate needs.
  • Initiative and act accordingly and set high expectations of the pupil you will work with.
