About This Role

Upper Primary Years Teacher (Grades 3–5)

MYIS is seeking a committed, insightful, and open-minded Upper Primary Years teacher who possesses a genuine passion for inquiry-based learning and collaboration.

Head Teacher Responsibilities
In your role as Head Teacher, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating educational experiences that promote the growth and development of every student. This position necessitates close cooperation with fellow teachers, effective communication with families, comprehensive documentation of student progress, and an active contribution to the wider school community.

Head Teachers are expected to support their colleagues, engage collaboratively with peers, foster positive relationships with students and their families, and actively participate in school initiatives and events.

Adopt the MYIS philosophy of child development, nurturing the physical, social, cognitive, emotional, and spiritual growth of students.


Implement the core principles of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) while adhering to the school's fundamental agreements regarding PYP.


Work collaboratively to plan, teach, assess, and reflect with both grade-level and vertical teams, utilizing MYIS learning targets that align with Common Core standards and the Programme of Inquiry.


Deliver a balanced, evidence-driven literacy program grounded in the Science of Reading, which includes explicit instruction in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.


Apply the Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop Units of Study, ensuring students engage with grade-appropriate texts and receive structured literacy instruction.


Teach mathematics through a conceptual and problem-solving lens aligned with Common Core Math Standards, helping students enhance their reasoning, fluency, and practical application abilities.


Build strong connections with families and encourage parental involvement in the educational process.


Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, committees, and community projects.


Engage in ongoing professional development through coaching cycles, training sessions, and reflective practices.

Teaching & Learning

Create a classroom environment that fosters independence, student agency, and inquiry.


Design age-appropriate learning experiences that integrate conceptual inquiry with standards-based instruction in literacy and mathematics.


Deliver literacy instruction based on the Science of Reading principles, utilizing systematic phonics, morphology and word study, vocabulary development, reading fluency, and comprehension strategies.


Provide students with ample opportunities to read and engage with complex grade-level texts, supported by scaffolding and differentiated instruction.


Implement writing instruction that encourages clear thinking, effective communication, and meaningful writing across various subjects.


Teach mathematics in alignment with the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice, emphasizing conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills.


Utilize standards-based learning objectives and success criteria to guide instruction and clarify learning goals for students.


Adapt instruction and the learning environment according to ongoing formative assessments and student progress.


Incorporate the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATL) into daily classroom practices, reflections, and student goal-setting.


Assist students in documenting and reflecting on their learning through portfolios and other authentic assessment approaches.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
