This Pre-K position is situated in the First Nation Community of James Smith Cree Nation, with responsibilities anticipated to commence as soon as a qualified candidate is identified. Currently, there are no housing options available within the community; therefore, teachers often commute from nearby towns and cities such as Melfort and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The Bernard Constant Community School is a dynamic establishment that serves the educational needs of over 440 students from Pre-K to Grade 12. The school is supported by a professional team of over 30 teachers along with a full support staff. Notable programs at the Bernard Constant Community School include Trauma Sensitive Programming, a comprehensive Cree Language Program across all grades, Land-Based Learning, Cultural Programs, a Sports Academy, and a Treaty Essential Learning Program. Candidates who are fluent in Cree and have knowledge or experience in these areas will be highly regarded.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following criteria will play a crucial role in the selection process.
- Develop curricula for student instruction in accordance with the approved curriculum
- Lead activities that promote students' physical, mental, and social development while preparing them for school
- Create, implement, and evaluate assessments
- Identify the individual learning needs of children
- Design, evaluate, and execute remedial programs for students requiring extra assistance, collaborating with Learning Supports, Social Emotional teachers, parents, and school administration
- Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and professional development workshops
- May supervise teachers' aides and student teachers
- A solid background in teaching Pre-K subjects is preferred
- Ability to integrate Indigenous perspectives into content and teaching practices to support student success
- Strong teamwork skills to collaborate with fellow educators to improve student academic performance
- Cultivate meaningful relationships within the community and actively engage in the rich cultural and extracurricular activities of the school
- Proficiency in the Cree Language is a significant asset.
Qualification Requirements
Certification in ECE Level 2
Salary and Benefits
Salary will be based on experience. Extended health benefits, vacation or holiday pay, and personal/sick leave may be available depending on the terms of the contract.
