Occupational Therapist (OT) - Contractor Expression of Interest
The Meadow Lake Tribal Council invites contractors to express their interest in the Occupational Therapist (OT) position within the Office of Education. The chosen contractor will be an integral part of the MLTC Student Wellness team. This role focuses on assisting individuals with various disabilities to reach their functional goals using innovative methods through the three (3) tiers of intervention that foster student growth. The contract will prioritize collaboration and consultation with nine (9) schools to deliver essential supports and programming.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a range of formal and informal assessments to evaluate visual/visual motor and sensory challenges, accessibility issues (home, school, community), mobility aids (such as wheelchairs and walkers), fine and gross motor skills (coordination, printing, walking), self-care skills (dressing, eating, bathing), social skills (play), and daily living skills (memory, attention, transitioning, self-regulation).
- Provide consultative services to parents, classroom teachers, educational assistants, special education teachers, principals, and administrative staff.
- Share insights regarding various student deficits and diagnoses pertinent to students, their families, and the school team.
- Work in tandem with healthcare providers and specialized diagnostic teams to facilitate access to necessary specialist services and support.
- Create reports that include recommendations for the school-based team or home, which may involve modifying classroom tasks, developing individualized and classroom programming, and recommending strategies to improve success in the classroom and school environment.
- Offer professional development sessions for the school-based team as requested.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree in a relevant field; must be a registered member and licensed by the Saskatchewan Society of Occupational Therapists (SSOT).
- Experience in First Nations’ Schools & Communities.
- Willingness to travel to First Nation Communities; ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Proficiency in the Cree/Dene language is a plus.
- Knowledge and/or openness to training that supports MLTC’s initiatives, including but not limited to:
- ISC Special Education System
- Microsoft Office
- Google Suite
- Programs such as: Zones of Regulation, Reference & Regulate for Autism, Second Step, Sensory Room development, etc.
- Additional training as required.
