About This Role

Shamattawa Education Authority is seeking applications for the roles of Elementary and Secondary Teachers, as well as a Resource Teacher. We have a particular interest in teaching couples, though exceptional single candidates are also welcome to apply. We are in search of approachable and flexible educators who are eager to work in this challenging environment and make a significant contribution to our essential profession. A positive attitude is crucial for successfully addressing the daily challenges of life in this distinctive community. This role presents a chance to make a real difference.

Shamattawa First Nation is located along the northern shore where the God’s and Echoing Rivers converge. The community lies 1277 kilometers north of Winnipeg and is 365 kilometers east by air from Thompson. With a population of around 1500, the primary language spoken is Cree. This remote and isolated area can only be accessed by air and a seasonal winter road.

Our modern school, which cost $48 million, began operations on January 18, 2016, and serves students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. We provide unique and engaging challenges for committed professionals, both inside the classroom and in outdoor settings. Community activities include hunting for moose, caribou, and geese, while fishing enthusiasts can pursue Northern Pike, Whitefish, Sturgeon, and Brook Trout. The spring and fall months are particularly beautiful, and winter offers great opportunities for outdoor sports, including skating at our school’s rink. Additionally, the community hosts Traditional Treaty Days in late June, a festive occasion full of joy.

To qualify, applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate and must submit a clear Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. All successful candidates will embrace the principles of educating First Nation children and will be enthusiastic about this exceptional opportunity to utilize their skills.

  • Furnished Accommodations
