Key Roles & Responsibilities
The Assistant Principal – Secondary plays a crucial role in providing both academic and operational leadership for the Secondary School (Years 7 to 13). This position is aligned with the school’s vision, upholds high standards in teaching and learning, advocates for student well-being, and nurtures a positive school culture within a diverse, international setting.
1. Academic Leadership
- Supervise the execution and assessment of the secondary curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the Cambridge curriculum and school policies.
- Assist Heads of Department (HOD) and educators in implementing high-quality teaching and learning practices through classroom observations, constructive feedback, and professional coaching.
- Lead initiatives in curriculum design, assessment methods, and data-driven decision-making.
- Support the preparation for examinations, assessment moderation, and the reporting processes.
- Facilitate the smooth daily operations of the department, including collaborating with the Deputy Principal to manage teaching staff coverage.
- Develop departmental budgets and monitor financial expenditures.
- Ensure that all planning and resource allocation decisions prioritize student learning.
- Participate in regular meetings with the school leadership team (SLT), as well as secondary and whole school gatherings as needed.
2. Teaching & Learning
- Foster a school atmosphere that encourages learning and promotes high levels of achievement among students.
- Create and implement suitable learning programs and instructional methods that cater to the diverse needs of all students and support effective timetabling.
- Advocate for effective teaching and learning practices throughout the school.
- Contribute to the development of school curriculum and assessment policies.
- Establish systems for monitoring individual student progress and ensure regular communication with parents regarding their children’s academic development.
- Assist the Principal and Deputy Principal in evaluating teaching and learning effectiveness across the school and in formulating improvement plans.
- Collaborate with the school leadership team to ensure that operational needs are seamlessly integrated with academic programs and initiatives.
3. Management – People & Teams
- Support the Deputy Principal in overseeing the supervision, appraisal, and professional development of secondary teaching staff.
- Encourage collaboration through departmental meetings, professional learning communities, and cross-curricular projects.
- Aid in the recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of secondary school personnel.
4. Communication
- Maintain effective communication channels with students, staff, parents, and colleagues.
- Implement all school policies with a clear understanding of their underlying principles.
5. Organisational and Administrative Management
- Assist in the daily management of the secondary section, including scheduling, timetabling, and event planning.
- Ensure adherence to school policies, safeguarding measures, and accreditation standards.
- Support school-wide initiatives, strategic objectives, and continuous improvement efforts.
6. Student Management & Well-being
- Oversee student discipline, attendance, and behavior management in accordance with school policies.
- Collaborate with counselors, year leaders, and teachers to support pastoral systems and student well-being programs.
- Address concerns from parents and students in a professional and constructive manner.
Job Specification

Years of Experience
- A minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a similar or related field.
- Additionally, at least 8-10 years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in an international school context.
- Familiarity with the Cambridge curriculum is highly preferred.
Education
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in Education/Teaching or an equivalent qualification, along with postgraduate training in education.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to the role.
- PGDE and/or PGCE qualifications are preferred.
- A Teacher’s License (NIE certification) is also preferred.
