About This Role

Role Summary:
St. Peter’s International School, situated in Palmela near Lisbon, accommodates approximately 1,500 students aged 4 months to 18 years on a contemporary 37,000 m² campus. The school offers a bilingual education (Portuguese/English), Cambridge programs, and the International Baccalaureate, along with boarding options for older students. With outstanding facilities, small class sizes, and a robust culture of academic excellence, St. Peter’s provides an inspiring setting for both students and educators.
We are in search of a highly qualified and skilled IB Portuguese Teacher to become part of our team. The ideal candidate will exhibit profound subject expertise and an in-depth understanding of the IB philosophy, with the capability to deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that foster critical thinking, intercultural awareness, and academic achievement.
You should be dedicated to crafting meaningful learning experiences that align with IB principles, encouraging student agency, and supporting all learners in reaching their utmost potential. Experience and training in teaching MYP and/or DP Portuguese will be greatly appreciated.

Key Responsibilities


• Provide high-quality, inquiry-based Portuguese lessons that encourage critical thinking, international-mindedness, and student agency, ensuring all learners are motivated, challenged, and supported.
• Develop, prepare, and implement units of inquiry consistent with IB philosophy, including MYP/DP frameworks, assessment criteria, and Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) skills.
• Assess, monitor, and document student progress utilizing IB assessment practices, offering timely, constructive feedback that fosters reflection and ongoing improvement.
• Establish a positive, inclusive, and concept-driven learning atmosphere that promotes well-being, academic excellence, and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity.
• Contribute to the pastoral and holistic growth of students, aiding their personal, social, and emotional development in line with IB learner profile attributes.
• Effectively employ digital tools and learning technologies to enhance inquiry, collaboration, and communication in the classroom.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the IB coordination team to ensure consistency, alignment, and the highest educational standards.
• Participate in continuous professional development, reflecting on practices, embracing innovation, and contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the IB program.
• Engage in professional development, welcoming innovation and consistently refining teaching practices.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• A strong qualification, enthusiasm, and a deep commitment to the principles and values of the International Baccalaureate.
• Proven excellence as an inquiry-driven classroom practitioner, capable of facilitating meaningful progress for all students through differentiated, concept-based teaching.
• A clear vision of exceptional IB teaching and learning, including the promotion of international-mindedness, student agency, and the development of ATL skills.
• Strong organizational and planning capabilities, ensuring high-quality unit design that aligns with MYP/DP frameworks.
• A positive, open-minded approach, embracing reflection, collaboration, and ongoing professional development within an innovative and evolving IB environment.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
