The Position

The British School of Ulaanbaatar is searching for a fully qualified Teacher of Science (KS3-KS5) for an initial contract spanning two academic years, from August 2025 to July 2027, with the possibility of extension. A comprehensive job description accompanies this listing. Experience in delivering the National Curriculum of England and Wales is essential, and prior work in UK or international schools following a British curriculum is highly preferred. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are encouraged to apply, as the School offers a two-year Early Career Framework (ECF) program. We seek professional, adaptable, and innovative educators who possess cultural sensitivity and a spirit of adventure.

Alongside teaching duties associated with this role, all teachers at BSU are expected to engage with our vibrant extra-curricular activity program. We especially welcome candidates interested in actively participating in the UB community and beyond.

For more details, please refer to the attached provisional Academic Year Calendar for 2025-26.

The School

Established in 2012, the British School of Ulaanbaatar stands out as one of Central Asia's premier educational institutions, dedicated to equipping students aged three to eighteen with an education that emphasizes academic excellence and personal development through challenges. We take pride in our academic achievements and the diverse educational experiences we offer our students. The School adheres to the Cambridge International curricula, preparing students for IGCSEs and A-Levels, with a significant majority of our graduates advancing to reputable international universities worldwide. We embrace both expatriate and Mongolian families while fostering a close-knit, community-oriented atmosphere. BSU is fully accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and is a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network. We are also awaiting confirmation of our membership with the Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).

The Location

Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, blends a contemporary urban landscape with ancient lamaseries and ger districts. The city boasts a vibrant social scene where local and expatriate communities interact seamlessly. Direct flights connect Ulaanbaatar to major international hubs such as Seoul, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Istanbul, as well as various domestic destinations.

Surrounded by stunning natural scenery, Ulaanbaatar offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities and unique cultural experiences. Adventurous individuals can partake in trekking, horseback riding, skiing, cycling, and camping, allowing exploration of the country’s breathtaking lakes, forests, mountains, and deserts.

Mongolia's climate is characterized by extremes; however, low humidity makes both summer and winter conditions more manageable than they may appear. Regular high-pressure systems lead to clear blue skies, enabling colleagues to appreciate the dramatic landscape. Air quality in Ulaanbaatar has significantly improved in the last five years due to governmental initiatives promoting smokeless fuels.

Terms and Conditions

The initial contract will commence on August 18, 2025, coinciding with the induction and onboarding period for new staff members. Competitive salaries are commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include full remission of tuition fees for dependent children attending the School, medical insurance, and allowances for flights and luggage at the beginning and end of the contract. Furnished accommodation on the School campus is available and is the preference for most expatriate staff. Comprehensive details regarding terms and conditions will be shared after successful interviews.
