About This Role

Job Overview:

The School Librarian functions as an information manager, equipped with a thorough understanding of teaching practices and the necessary resources for both educators and students. This position merges knowledge of the curriculum, pedagogical approaches, inquiry methodologies, and learning preferences with skills in resource management, information services, personnel administration, and information access systems, including technology. The IB School Librarian actively contributes to curriculum development, support, and execution. A significant aspect of this role involves collaborating with the Education, Research, and Pedagogy Council (ERPC), along with teachers and students, to design, plan, explore, and assess units while advocating for an inquiry-based learning approach.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the growth of the collection (both print and digital) to support the IB Curriculum for school stakeholders.
  • Conduct reading sessions tailored to specific subject requirements.
  • Create a library atmosphere where users can access relevant information promptly.
  • Encourage reading habits among students.
  • Organize Book Weeks throughout the school, featuring literacy coaches and authors, and coordinating MYP exhibitions to celebrate the occasion.
  • Ensure that students and staff effectively utilize knowledge and ideas.
  • Inspire a love for learning and ensure equitable access to information.
  • Partner with classroom teachers and specialists to develop and implement lessons that incorporate library research elements.
  • Aid in supporting IB culminating projects in collaboration with project coordinators.
  • Design and deliver weekly PYP lessons based on Units of Inquiry (UOI).
  • Facilitate Academic Integrity sessions with teachers in classroom settings.
  • Supervise Personal Projects.
  • Oversee Extended Essays for the Diploma Program.
  • Manage co-curricular activities related to the library.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library & Information Science.
  • A secondary license or teaching certification such as PGDE, PGCE, PGCEi, or an equivalent qualification is essential.
  • A Master’s degree in Education is preferred.

Specialized Requirements:

  • Expertise in managing IB-aligned print and digital resources.
  • Ability to align library initiatives with IB standards and assist student projects.
  • Experience in coordinating large-scale school events like Book Week and exhibitions.
  • Strong capability to deliver lessons and work collaboratively with educators.
  • Proficiency in multitasking, project management, and innovative program development.
