About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and talented individual to become part of our Middle/High School team. The anticipated start date is 01 August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the prescribed curriculum, demonstrating thorough and current knowledge of the subject matter.
- Design and conduct engaging lessons to inspire students.
- Develop and utilize suitable materials and create a classroom environment that accommodates various learning styles.
- Provide written documentation of planning and preparation upon request.
- Maintain organized records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans, and more.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Teach assigned students based on their individual needs by employing appropriate instructional strategies that cater to diverse abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, those with lower academic abilities, and gifted students.
- Assign and evaluate student work.
- Assess, document, and report on students' academic progress and achievements, using assessments to tailor the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using media and technology within the classroom setting.
- Foster the overall progress and well-being of students, providing guidance on educational matters.
- Engage with external stakeholders when necessary (e.g., Ministry of Education officials).
- Participate in appraisal and Performance Management processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Collaborate with colleagues in preparing and developing teaching materials, resources, courses of study, and pastoral arrangements.
- Participate in and, when appropriate, lead co-curricular and extra-curricular programs at the school.
- Encourage positive working relationships through effective leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
- Monitor and supervise student behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
- Model and foster cultural awareness and understanding while cultivating a passion for learning.
- Assist in organizing school events and functions (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days, etc.).
- Regularly communicate with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values, while keeping them informed about their child's progress in a confidential manner.
- Exhibit initiative and commitment beyond the typical workday as required by tasks.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.
