About This Role

GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to become part of our Middle/High School team, with a start date of 01 August 2026. The primary responsibilities for this role include: embodying and promoting the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values. It involves delivering the required curriculum while demonstrating thorough and current knowledge of both curriculum and subject matter.

You will be responsible for planning and conducting engaging lessons that inspire students. Additionally, you will create and use suitable materials and classroom environments tailored to accommodate various learning styles. On request, you should provide written evidence of your planning and preparation.

Maintaining records related to curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment plans is essential. Adherence to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct is mandatory at all times. You will teach students based on their individual needs, employing appropriate teaching strategies that cater to diverse abilities, including late-entering students, ESL learners, and those of varying academic abilities.

Your duties will also include assigning and grading work, as well as assessing, recording, and reporting on students' academic progress and achievements. You will utilize assessment to ensure the curriculum addresses each student’s individual needs. Proficiency in using media and technology within the classroom is required.

Promoting the overall progress and well-being of students while providing guidance on educational matters is vital. Communicating with external parties, such as Ministry of Education officials, will be necessary when appropriate. You will participate in appraisal and Performance Management procedures, along with Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Collaborating with colleagues to prepare and develop teaching materials, resources, courses of study, and pastoral arrangements is expected. You may also participate in, and lead when applicable, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs within the school. Fostering positive working relationships through proactive leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences will be important.

Monitoring and supervising student behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness is essential, as is planning and implementing strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior. You will model and promote cultural awareness, understanding, and a passion for learning.

Assisting in the organization of school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days, is also part of the role. Regular communication with parents is crucial to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values, keeping them informed about their children's progress while maintaining the confidentiality of student-related information.

You should be prepared to invest extra effort and energy beyond the standard workday when necessary. Attendance at staff meetings and participation on committees is required. Additional duties may be assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors as needed.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
