Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and committed Assistant Teacher and High-Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to become part of our team starting in September 2026. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in enhancing students' academic achievement by supervising study sessions, providing support, and assisting with educational activities. This position is essential for helping students reach their academic objectives while fostering a positive learning atmosphere.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the teacher with reading-related tasks.
- Conduct small group activities within or outside the classroom as instructed by the teacher.
- Prepare and organize classroom activities.
- Create displays of student work and assist in preparing these displays.
- Photocopy materials and help prepare worksheets as requested.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by direct and indirect supervisors.
- Cover classes for brief periods during emergencies.
- Organize and arrange stock cupboards and distribute new supplies.
- Assist children with restroom needs and provide necessary hygiene support.
- Familiarize yourself with key elements of the curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, and phonetics.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
- Demonstrate initiative and dedication beyond the standard work hours when required.
- Participate in staff meetings and serve on committees as necessary.
- Maintain tact, confidentiality, and discretion at all times.
- Safeguard confidential information, ensuring that details regarding students and the school are not disclosed without approval from the teacher or senior management.
Skills
- A recognized HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of the British curriculum.
- Experience leading whole-class instruction.
- Exceptional communication and organizational abilities.
- A proactive, flexible, and collaborative approach.
- High level of general education, particularly in Mathematics and English.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- ICT skills are desirable.
- Capable of managing various tasks, working effectively under pressure, and relating well to children and colleagues.
- Previous experience as a teaching assistant or working with children is preferred.
