About This Role

Job Description

Key Purpose

The individual in this position will take the lead in managing and monitoring progress, facilitating curriculum planning, supporting the Behaviour for Learning Policy, and engaging with parents to help realize the school’s vision. As a member of the Extended Leadership Team, the candidate will be expected to:

  • Clearly express a vision for their Key Stage in alignment with the school’s ethos and vision.
  • Lead, manage, coordinate, maintain, develop, monitor, and assess the progress of children within their Key Stage.
  • Actively participate in planning, resource management, policy development, and implementation school-wide, through effective leadership and management of their specific Key Stage.
  • Contribute significantly to upholding high expectations and standards across all areas of school life.
  • Work flexibly to support the daily organization and management of the school.
  • Report to the relevant Senior Leader and ultimately to the Principal/CEO.
  • Contribute to the school’s Performance Development Programme as appropriate.

Aspects of the Role of Assistant Head Teacher

The role encompasses five key aspects to achieve the Key Purpose:

  • Promoting and ensuring student development, progress, and well-being.
  • Leading teaching and learning, while managing policy within the context of the Year group.
  • Leading and managing staff and teams.
  • Managing resources effectively.
  • Advocating for and representing the Key Stage.

Promoting and Ensuring High-Performance Learning at WSD

  • Support for transition processes throughout the school.

  • Good behavior in classrooms and throughout the school.
  • Internal structures in place within the Key Stage to encourage positive behavior and manage disciplinary issues in coordination with the Student Welfare and House Team.
  • Setting appropriate progress targets for the Key Stage in collaboration with the Head of School.
  • Analyzing and forecasting trends, such as attendance, attainment, assessment, and marking, to identify areas for improvement in consultation with the Head of School.
  • Collaboration with the ELT and SLT for the referral and review of individual cases.
  • Fostering a positive ethos that reflects a collective commitment from all teaching staff to high achievement, excellent behavior, an effective learning environment, strong relationships, and equal opportunities for all.
  • Ensuring that the evaluation of assessments and attainment routinely incorporates student feedback.
  • Actively observing and participating in Key Stage activities.
  • Promoting student involvement in enrichment activities in conjunction with the Student Welfare and House Team.
  • Developing proactive relationships with external agencies.

Skills

Candidates for this position should be:

  • Strong team players, both within the department and across different phases.
  • Experienced in leading a segment of the Primary school or holding leadership/supervisory experience for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Familiar with the educational landscape and current pedagogical practices.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
