Assistant Head Teacher of Secondary

We are seeking an exceptional and proactive Assistant Head of Secondary to join our Senior Leadership Team. The successful candidate will demonstrate a robust strategic vision, operational adeptness, and the capacity to inspire staff, engage parents, and significantly contribute to the continuous development and success of the Secondary phase.
As a crucial member of the Secondary Senior Leadership Team, the Assistant Head of Secondary will be instrumental in the strategic, academic, and operational leadership of the phase. This role will support the Head of Secondary in promoting school improvement objectives, upholding high standards, and ensuring a consistent and positive experience for all students.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
•
Support the Head of Secondary in achieving the school’s vision, values, and strategic improvement objectives.
•
Engage in self-evaluation efforts, improvement planning, and preparations for inspections.
•
Demonstrate high professional standards while nurturing a culture of aspiration, inclusion, accountability, and continuous development.
Teaching, Learning and Standards
•
Assess the quality of teaching and learning through lesson observations, learning walks, work reviews, and student feedback.
•
Work closely with Heads of Department, Heads of Year, and curriculum leaders to improve achievement and expedite progress.
•
Encourage consistency in curriculum planning, assessment, feedback, and classroom practices across the Secondary phase.
•
Lead or assist in school-wide or phase-specific teaching and learning initiatives.
Data, Assessment and Reporting
•
Leverage assessment data to pinpoint trends, strengths, and areas needing attention, facilitating targeted intervention strategies.
•
Contribute to developing and refining effective tracking, monitoring, and reporting systems.
•
Assist in analyzing and presenting student performance data to senior leaders, governors, and external stakeholders.
•
A solid background or interest in data leadership and performance reporting is advantageous.
Pastoral Care, Behaviour and Safeguarding
•
Uphold high standards of behavior, attendance, and student conduct throughout the Secondary school.
•
Collaborate with pastoral and inclusion teams to prioritize student well-being, safeguarding, and a sense of belonging.
•
Engage with parents professionally to address concerns and foster constructive relationships.
•
Promote a strong safeguarding culture in line with school policies and legal requirements.
Operational Leadership
•
Aid in the effective daily operation of the Secondary school.
•
Participate in timetabling, event planning, examination processes, enrichment programs, and school routines.
•
Ensure that policies and procedures are applied consistently and effectively.
Staff Development and Performance
•
Line manage designated middle leaders or teaching staff as required.
•
Engage in appraisal, performance management, and professional development processes.
•
Offer coaching, mentoring, and leadership support to build team capacity.
•
Encourage collaboration, professional dialogue, and opportunities for leadership development.
Parental and Community Engagement
•
Maintain strong communication with parents to support student progress and well-being.
•
Represent the school at meetings, events, and community initiatives.
•
Support initiatives that promote student leadership, enrichment, and broader participation.
Professional Expectations
•
Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning and leadership development.
•
Stay updated on current educational research, curriculum advancements, and inspection frameworks.
•
