The Post
The British School of Ulaanbaatar is seeking a fully qualified Teacher of Science (KS3-KS5) for an initial contract lasting two academic years, from August 2026 to July 2028, with the possibility of renewal thereafter. A detailed job description is attached to this advertisement. Candidates must have training in delivering the National Curriculum of England and Wales, and experience in the UK or international schools adhering to a British-style curriculum is highly preferred. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are encouraged to apply, as the School offers a two-year Early Career Framework (ECF) programme.
We are in search of dedicated, adaptable, and innovative educators who possess cultural awareness and a spirit of adventure. Ideally, applicants should be capable of teaching CIE AS & A Level Biology.
In addition to the teaching responsibilities associated with this position, BSU actively promotes a range of extracurricular activities, and all teachers are expected to engage. We particularly welcome candidates eager to take part in the community of Ulaanbaatar and beyond. Please refer to the attached provisional Academic Year Calendar for 2026-27.
The School
Established in 2012, the British School of Ulaanbaatar is recognized as one of Central Asia's premier educational institutions, dedicated to providing students aged three to eighteen with an education that fosters academic excellence and personal development through challenges. We take pride in our strong academic performance and the diverse educational opportunities we offer.
The School implements curricula from Cambridge International, preparing students for IGCSEs and A-Levels. The majority of our graduates successfully gain admission to prestigious international universities worldwide. We embrace both expatriate and Mongolian families while fostering a familial and community-oriented atmosphere. BSU is fully accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and is a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, the Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO), and the Council of International Schools (CIS). The most recent BSO inspection occurred in March 2026.
The Location
Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, features a striking modern skyline alongside historic lamaseries and ger neighborhoods. The city offers a vibrant social scene where local residents and expatriates mingle effortlessly. It boasts direct flights to several major international hubs, including Seoul, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Istanbul, as well as to more remote domestic locations.
Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, Ulaanbaatar provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities and unique cultural experiences. Adventurous individuals can partake in trekking, horseback riding, skiing, cycling, and camping, enabling them to explore the lakes, forests, mountains, and deserts of this stunning country.
Mongolia's climate is characterized by extremes, but low humidity levels make both summer and winter conditions more manageable than the temperatures might indicate. Frequent high-pressure systems lead to clear blue skies, allowing colleagues to appreciate the dramatic scenery. The severe air pollution that previously affected Ulaanbaatar has significantly improved in the past five years due to government initiatives promoting smokeless fuels.
Terms and Conditions
The initial contract is set to commence around Monday, August 17, 2026, coinciding with the induction and onboarding period for new staff. Salaries are competitive and depend on experience. Additional benefits include complete tuition fee waivers for dependent children at the School, medical insurance, and allowances for flights and luggage at the start and conclusion of the contract. Furnished accommodation on campus is available, which is preferred by most expatriate staff. Complete details regarding terms and conditions will be provided after successful interviews.
How to apply
To apply for this role, candidates must provide the following information:
A completed TES online application form that includes comprehensive details of qualifications, professional training, and previous employment, along with a cover letter expressing your interest and suitability for the position, highlighting relevant skills and attributes;
Contact information for at least two referees, one of whom must be your current or most recent employer (Head of School/Principal or Chair of the Governing Body).
All required documents should be submitted through the TES Portal. The application deadline is Friday, April 10, 2026. Early submissions are encouraged, as interviews will be conducted online as soon as possible, and the School reserves the right to appoint candidates before the deadline. The recruitment process will be conducted online, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
The British School of Ulaanbaatar prioritizes the safeguarding and well-being of children and young people, requiring all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, along with the Whistleblowing Policy, is included in this advertisement, and we advise all interested parties to review these documents prior to applying.
Successful applicants in the interview process can expect to undergo thorough background and reference checks, as well as the provision of personal and medical information necessary for entry into Mongolia. Referees will be asked to confirm that applicants are not involved in any ongoing safeguarding or disciplinary investigations and are unaware of any factors that would prevent them from working with children.
Candidates from the U.K. will undergo a vetting and barring check before arriving in Mongolia, with equivalent checks required for applicants of other nationalities. Additionally, all candidates must provide certificates of good conduct from every country of prior residence and employment. Applicants must be aware that any past criminal activity or convictions on their permanent record will disqualify them from employment with BSU and residency in Mongolia.
