About This Role

Aldar Academies is on the lookout for a Teacher - Humanities at Yas American Academy, located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, for the academic year 2025/26. Opened in September 2016, Yas American Academy delivers high-caliber education to the Emirate. The curriculum is based on the Massachusetts Common Core, adapted to be relevant to the students, and complemented by the local Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Social Studies programs. The school boasts exceptional facilities, including an expansive astro-turf field, two swimming pools, a well-stocked library, a spacious multi-purpose sports hall, an auditorium, and outdoor play areas.

Responsibilities
Main Duties

• Deliver lessons that motivate students to excel and reach their highest potential.

• Key roles and responsibilities include:

• Collaboration and teamwork.

• Effective communication at all levels.

• Commitment to fostering positive relationships within the school community.

• Collaborating with fellow educators to design engaging lessons that align with curricular requirements.

• Maintaining flexible communication and collaboration with colleagues.

• Partnering with parents to ensure students' happiness and optimal academic results.

• Working cooperatively with curriculum support staff (as needed) to enhance children's development.

Specific Duties

Teaching and Learning:

• Comprehensive understanding of the curriculum.

• Organizing classroom resources and creating displays to foster a positive and engaging learning atmosphere.

• Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons that accommodate the diverse abilities of the class.

• Inspiring pupils through enthusiastic and imaginative teaching methods.

• Observing and assessing students according to school standards.

• Reflecting on classroom provision, teaching sessions, and student progress to adapt the environment, planning, and curriculum accordingly.

• Collaborating with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, if necessary.

• Ensuring the Yas American Academy Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes are integrated throughout the curriculum.

Assessment and Data:

• Taking accountability for the progress of a class.

• Adhering to requirements for the assessment and documentation of students' development using Target Tracker.

• Utilizing assessment data to inform future planning, provision, and interventions.

• Providing feedback to parents and guardians regarding student progress during Parent Teacher Conferences and other meetings.

Behaviour Management and Duties:

• Adhering to the school's behavior policy.

• Effectively managing classrooms, employing strategies suited to students' needs to inspire, motivate, and challenge them.

• Maintaining positive relationships with students, exercising appropriate authority, and acting decisively when necessary within the school's behavioral framework.

• Serving as a positive role model and consistently demonstrating the attitudes, values, and behaviors expected of students.

• Upholding high expectations for behavior, encouraging self-control and independence among all learners.

• Performing duties as assigned in accordance with the school's policy.

Wider Professional Responsibilities:

• Collaborating as part of a curriculum action group to support planning, assessment, resources, and special events linked to that team.

• Assisting in organizing and participating in school events, outings, and activities that may occur on weekends or evenings.

• Effectively communicating with parents/guardians regarding students' achievements and well-being using school systems/processes such as CPOMS as appropriate.

• Contributing positively to the broader life and ethos of the school.

• Leading a weekly ECA each term.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject, along with a B.Ed. or PGCE in Education.

• Experience in an international school environment is an advantage.

Minimum Experience:

• Candidates should have experience teaching at the AP/IB or A-Levels standard.

Personal/Leadership Qualities:

• Prior experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.

• A passion for teaching and a commitment to nurturing the holistic development of every child.

• A high standard of professionalism and a focus on the well-being of children.

• Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.

• Respect for all individuals within the school community, regardless of their position, gender, age, or ethnic background.

• A constructive and solution-oriented approach to professional life.

• A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police clearance.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
