About This Role

Areas of Responsibility


Planning and Preparation


Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter and continue to enhance that knowledge


Understand the typical developmental stages of pre-adolescents and adolescents, and identify when a student diverges from these norms


Show awareness of both progressive pedagogical approaches specific to content and those that are non-content specific


Customize instruction to cater to the individual and collective needs of students, utilizing data gathered in the classroom as well as broader school assessments


Adapt teaching methods to support English language learners and students with learning disabilities


Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to diversity issues within the international school environment


Choose instructional (content and language) objectives from the approved school curriculum that are significant and relevant, setting high expectations for student achievement


Clearly articulate instructional (content and language) goals in written form and communicate them to students each day


Design learning activities that are directly linked to instructional objectives in a logical progression


Implement differentiated strategies in planning, instruction, assessment, and feedback


Utilize materials effectively to help students achieve instructional goals


Consult students’ individual education plans when preparing instruction.

Instruction


Offer clear instructions and explicitly teach procedures to students


Present students with frequent chances to engage at high cognitive levels (e.g., Bloom’s Taxonomy)


Encourage students to take ownership of their discussions, projects, and work outcomes


Ensure equitable learning opportunities in the classroom for all students, irrespective of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or membership in any protected group as of September 2019


Select activities and instructional resources that align with learning objectives.


Deliver well-structured and coherent lessons


Respond to the interests and learning needs of students


Incorporate diverse instructional and learning modes throughout units and lessons

Assessing Student Learning


Develop assessments that align with instructional objectives and standards


Conduct assessments in a way that guarantees validity and reliability of the data, monitoring both the testing environment and academic integrity


Utilize multiple forms of assessment to gauge student learning, including project-based, inquiry-based, and other authentic assessment methods

Creating a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment


Build professional relationships with students during class, advisory sessions, and school or extracurricular activities


Engage students with lessons that promote active participation and inquiry


Make the course relevant to students' lives


Establish procedures that set high expectations for behavior and achievement


Design and explain activities in a way that fosters high expectations for student behavior and success


Organize classroom furniture to optimize student learning

Managing the Classroom


Set rigorous expectations for behavior and implement procedures that uphold these standards


Maintain a productive atmosphere in the classroom


Facilitate smooth transitions for students between different activities


Implement procedures for non-instructional responsibilities including attendance and tardiness

Managing Student Behavior


Define clear expectations for conduct that students can articulate


Monitor student behavior and intervene promptly and preventively


Address student misbehavior appropriately as outlined in the Student and Parent Handbook

Professional Responsibilities


Keep accurate records of student progress


Engage in meetings with students and parents, as well as curriculum, department, faculty, and student support meetings


Take part in professional development opportunities at or sponsored by the school


Contribute to school initiatives


Foster collegial relationships with colleagues and administrators


Participate in school events


Assist with extracurricular activities such as sports teams and/or student clubs


Adhere to the GWA Code of Professional Conduct as detailed in our Child Protection Policy


Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Upper School Principal or their designee.

Preferred requirements for the position:


At least 3 years of teaching experience, ideally in the same subject area as the position being applied for


Certification/licensure as a teacher from an appropriate regulatory authority, such as a state or provincial Department of Education. TOEFL certification is NOT acceptable.


A minimum of a BS or BA degree


A major or minor in the subject area to be taught.


Training at the university level in educational pedagogy


Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning

Compensation

MAD 25,000 - MAD 32,000 per month (Monthly salary is NET (take-home), Additional benefits: Housing stipend: 6000 MAD/month, relocation & annual flights, international health coverage, retirement fund options, language classes, welcome stipend, laptop, SIM card)
