ASSISTANT HEAD - ASSESSMENT & TIMETABLING DATA (ACADEMIC)

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Assistant Head - Assessment & Timetabling Data (Academic) plays a crucial role in upholding exceptional academic standards through data analysis, curriculum execution, and reporting within the Secondary School. This position involves tracking student performance, enhancing the teaching and learning experience, optimizing the timetable, and ensuring accurate academic reporting.
Collaborating closely with Heads of Departments, teachers, and senior leadership, the Assistant Head - Assessment & Timetabling Data (Academic) will spearhead data-driven initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes, refining assessment practices, and facilitating academic interventions, all while aligning with the English National Curriculum and IGCSE benchmarks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Performance & Data Analysis
• Supervise the monitoring of student progress and performance analysis to inform the overarching academic strategy via the iSams platform.
• Direct the collection and interpretation of data within iSams, utilizing assessment outcomes to pinpoint trends and areas requiring enhancement.
• Leverage IGCSE predicted grades, internal assessments, and standardized testing data to foster academic excellence.
• Implement and manage targeted academic interventions for students at risk of underperforming.
• Ensure that student data gathered through iSams is effectively utilized by teachers to shape lesson planning and differentiation.
Quality of Teaching & Learning for Academic Progress
• Support and oversee Heads of Departments in lesson planning, curriculum implementation, and maintaining assessment consistency.
• Carry out lesson observations, coaching, and feedback sessions to elevate teaching standards.
• Apply evidence-based teaching methods to increase student engagement and promote high achievement levels.
• Ensure effective assessment for learning practices are in place to provide students with clear academic targets.
• Advocate the effective use of digital learning tools to improve educational outcomes.
Timetable & Curriculum Planning
• Lead the design, implementation, and management of the school timetable, ensuring optimal utilization of staff and resources.
• Ensure the timetable maximizes student learning opportunities while balancing teacher workload.
• Collaborate with subject leaders to align curriculum planning, assessment schedules, and academic priorities.
• Modify and refine the timetable according to student needs, staffing changes, and academic goals.
• Ensure the seamless operation of this process through the iSams platform.
Assessment, Monitoring & Academic Interventions
• Oversee the assessment calendar to guarantee timely and effective evaluations at all key stages.
• Design and implement intervention programs to support students needing additional academic assistance.
• Ensure precise and efficient data collection, tracking, and analysis to guide teaching strategies and monitor student progress.
• Assist teachers in utilizing assessment data to develop differentiated learning experiences.
• Evaluate the impact of interventions and report findings to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Academic Reporting
• Through iSams, ensure precise and timely academic reporting for students, parents, and senior leadership.
• Lead the creation of progress reports, termly reports, and end-of-year academic summaries.
• Assist Heads of Departments and teachers in crafting clear, meaningful, and constructive student reports.
• Present analyses of academic performance to SLT and Governors, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
• Develop reporting systems that provide parents with timely and informative updates regarding their child's progress.
Staff Development & Leadership
• Offer training and professional development on data analysis, assessment practices, and instructional strategies.
• Support Heads of Departments in facilitating data-informed discussions to improve student outcomes.
• Contribute to staff performance management by providing feedback on teaching effectiveness.
• Foster a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and innovation among staff.
Whole-School Contribution
• Work alongside the Pastoral Team and SENCO to ensure academic progress is supported in tandem with student well-being.
• Engage with parents, students, and staff to cultivate a culture of high expectations and academic ambition.
• Contribute to school development planning, self-evaluation, and preparation for inspections.
• Stay updated on educational research, curriculum developments, and best practices in academic leadership.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent qualification.
• A strong academic foundation with a degree in a relevant field.
• Extensive experience teaching IGCSE and the English National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 & 4.
• Proven experience in a middle or senior leadership capacity, demonstrating a track record of enhancing academic standards.
• Proficient in utilizing the iSams platform on a school-wide scale.
• Expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting via iSams to promote student progress.
• Experience in timetable design and academic planning.
