Our primary recruitment phase includes in-person interviews with the Principal in the UK. Interview locations are:
• London – Saturday and Sunday, 28 February–1 March 2026
• Manchester – Saturday and Sunday, 7–8 March 2026
Other times and locations can be arranged flexibly by prior agreement.

Position Profile
• Experience teaching in the UK is preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in AL/IGCSE/AP for the relevant subjects.
• Ability to teach high-achieving students.
• A degree in the relevant subject area.
• A recognized teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent).
Specific Responsibilities of Teaching Position
• Create and deliver lessons in line with the Scheme of Work, incorporating a variety of learning activities.
• Develop and implement assessments in accordance with departmental standards, ensuring timely report submissions.
• Regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and create assessments to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with colleagues to promote a positive and supportive work environment through resource and best practice sharing.
• Opportunities to teach AP Economics.
• Potential to teach RPQ (projects) & GNT (Gifted and Talented).
Brief Description of SCIE
We are a high school following the UK curriculum (Cambridge International AS/AL & IGCSE), primarily instructing Chinese students preparing for international university admissions.
In 2025, we introduced an AP stream, providing opportunities for teachers to engage in AP subjects across various disciplines.

• Admissions are highly selective, requiring English and Mathematics tests.
• Instruction and communication are conducted in AS/AL English, with students primarily studying English language or literature at A1/A2 levels.
• Over 1800 students focused solely on high school – UK Key Stages 4 & 5.
• Fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) & WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the US), and regional members of FOBISIA & EARCOS.
• Examinations include AS/AL, IGCSE (Cambridge International and AQA), and AP (College Board).
• A day & boarding school where teachers do not engage in boarding duties or have evening or night responsibilities.

Subject Department Introduction:
The Economics department consists of 18 staff members within a larger Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, which includes a total of 40 teachers. The primary focus is on economics, but there are also classes in Business Studies and Accounting. Prospective teachers will have the opportunity to teach AS, AL, and IGCSE Economics, with potential assignments in AS/AL Accounting or IGCSE Business Studies. Economics is a popular choice among students, with over half selecting it at GL level and a significant number continuing to A Level. The department boasts impressive results, with over 80% of students achieving A/A* at IGCSE and approximately two-thirds at A-Level. Each year, many students apply to prestigious universities in the UK, USA, and HK for courses in Economics, Accounting & Finance, or Business-related fields.
We are in search of a dedicated and passionate Economics Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of economic principles and a strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for students. As an Economics Teacher, you will play a crucial role in guiding students to enhance their economic comprehension and critical thinking skills, particularly in the context of Cambridge A Level and IGCSE Economics, Business Studies, and Accounting courses.
Students

• Students complete IGCSE exams at the end of G2, then pursue 5/6 subjects at AS, and 4/5 at AL (including English) or follow an AP curriculum.
• Average international exam results typically reach grade A/A* across the school.
• 41 offers to Oxbridge, with over 90% of students applying to the UK receiving offers from top 10 universities in the 2025 cohort.
• University offers in the US include Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Chicago, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Columbia, and Cornell.
• Students excel in a wide range of subjects, including Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Languages, Science, and Mathematics.
• Class sizes are capped at 26 for IGCSE and 24 for AS/A Level.

Schedule
• Working week: Monday – Friday 07:50 – 16:40 (with a 07:30 start on Mondays and an early finish at 15:00 on Fridays).
• Standard contact teaching time is 24 x 40-minute periods per week (approximately 50% of the timetable).
• Personal time includes 6 periods per week fixed in the timetable when attendance is not required.
• Extra-Curricular Activity – 1 hour per week ECA after school (16:30 – 17:30).
• CPD – Extensive professional development opportunities are available both online and in-person.
• Holidays include 1 week for October China National Day, 2 weeks for Christmas, 3 weeks for Chinese New Year, public holidays in China, and a summer break from mid-June to early August.
Pastoral
Pastoral care is essential to our mission at SCIE. All classroom teachers are involved in ensuring the holistic well-being of students, promoting safety, belonging, and overall well-being during their time at the college.
• Form tutor role – Most teachers are expected to take on a form group of around 20 students. This involves regular individual mentoring sessions as part of the timetable, conducting form time with the group, and teaching a weekly PSHE lesson. As the main contact for students, form tutors are responsible for understanding their tutees beyond academics. An additional allowance accompanies this role.
• Teachers without a form tutor role may be assigned other pastoral responsibilities as necessary.
• Pastoral professional development – In addition to annual safeguarding training, there are further opportunities to enhance expertise in this area and contribute to the school's overall pastoral development.
