Aldar Education is seeking an outstanding Head of Chemistry to become part of Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi, commencing in the academic year 2026-2027.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Department Development

  • Develop and implement departmental policies that align with the school's vision and standards for high achievement, promoting effective teaching and learning.
  • Design, oversee, and evaluate short-, medium-, and long-term development plans for the department.
  • Analyze data to identify underperforming students and implement targeted support strategies.
  • Review school data, research, and inspection reports to inform teaching practices, expectations, and improvement objectives.
  • Ensure that schemes of work are relevant, regularly revised, and accommodate provisions for SEN, G&T, and EAL across all year groups.

Teaching and Learning

  • Ensure comprehensive curriculum coverage, continuity, and progress for all students, including those with special educational needs and those who excel.
  • Establish clear policies for assessing, recording, and reporting on student achievements.
  • Maintain and communicate high expectations regarding teaching quality, student performance, and behavior.
  • Supervise and evaluate teaching and learning to identify strengths and areas for improvement, implementing necessary actions.
  • Ensure consistent departmental engagement in the school's CAS program and after-school revision sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP students.

Leading and Managing Staff

  • Oversee staff performance in line with the school’s performance management policy.
  • Set clear expectations and promote positive working relationships within the team, fostering collaboration, support, accountability, and high professional standards.
  • Hold regular department meetings with documented agendas and minutes, concentrating on enhancing standards related to student achievement and teaching quality.

Resource Management

  • Efficiently allocate and manage staff, resources, and budgets.
  • Maximize the utilization of facilities to create an engaging teaching and learning environment that complies with the Learning Environment Policy.
  • Ensure a safe working and learning environment where risks are properly assessed and Health and Safety policies and regulations are consistently adhered to.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the school's CAS Programme by leading or supporting one after-school activity each term (CAS includes I/GCSE and IB DP Revision/Booster Sessions).
  • Serve as an Academic Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor for Year 12/13 students.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues and invigilate examinations as required, including at least one evening and one weekend external examination session, assisting the Examinations Officer and Summer Examination Schedule.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field, along with a teaching qualification.
  • At least 6 years of teaching experience in a specialized subject up to GCSE and A Level is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience working with students who are diverse learners is advantageous.

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
