About This Role
Heretaunga College is a co-educational state secondary school in Upper Hutt, serving approximately 900 students.
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic specialist teacher to support planning and delivering tailored learning programmes for students with complex learning and communication needs.
This role requires close collaboration with classroom teachers, teacher aides, whānau, and external specialists to create inclusive learning environments and ensure students have the support they need to be present, participate and make progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and deliver modified, inclusive programmes tailored to students' individual learning needs.
- Assess students' learning needs and design targeted interventions to support their progress.
- Work closely with classroom teachers and the Learning Support Department to ensure students can participate in day-to-day school activities.
- Assist with student personal health, sensory regulation, and self-care needs as required.
- Coordinate and lead the IEP process with whānau and teaching teams.
- Connect with specialists and external agencies to ensure coordinated support for students and their whānau.
A comprehensive understanding of best practices in inclusive education and a commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice are essential.
