About This Role

The British Junior Academy of Brussels, situated in the diplomatic residential area of Brussels, benefits from a diverse student body, reflecting our closeness to major EU institutions, prominent NGOs, and multinational corporate offices. Since its establishment in 1992, the school has earned recognition in the community as a high-quality provider of the National Curriculum of England. BJAB is proud to be affiliated with COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and IAPS (International Association of Prep Schools). Following an inspection by ISI in 2019, the school was rated ‘Excellent’ across all areas, and a subsequent compliance inspection in 2022 confirmed that BJAB meets all British School Overseas (BSO) standards. The inspection report can be accessed here.

Our school has a proven track record of preparing students for entry into prestigious European and British independent schools, including Eton, Thomas’s Battersea, Westminster, Magdalen College, St Mary’s Ascot, and James Allen's Girls School, attracting high-quality British and international families.

At BJAB, we emphasize creating a safe, nurturing, respectful, tolerant, and disciplined environment where high standards are upheld in all facets of school life. Currently, we have approximately 280 students and a dedicated team of 40 educators.

The school is in search of a passionate and innovative primary class teacher. We seek individuals capable of supporting, nurturing, and challenging children from diverse backgrounds and varying starting points. Our professional team is characterized by creativity, adaptability, professionalism, integrity, high expectations, and exceptional levels of pastoral care and support.

BJAB is devoted to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and all candidates will undergo background checks in accordance with British Overseas Standards.

- A strong understanding of UK education and the National Curriculum of England
- Teaching experience in EYFS, Key Stage 1, or 2 within a British school or British international school
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken)

Applications that do not meet these essential criteria cannot be considered. We welcome applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs). This role offers a full-time, fixed-term contract, with flexible start and end dates according to the successful applicant, but a minimum commitment of one term is required. We are eager to find candidates who can begin as soon as possible, with the possibility of extending the contract if it proves mutually beneficial.

Working at BJAB includes:
- A competitive salary commensurate with teaching experience
- Lunch vouchers for each working day
- Vouchers for ecological products
- Transport compensation and a bike leasing plan
- Pension plan
- Hospitalization insurance (covering family members)
- Opportunities for professional development and potential advancement within the school

Interested candidates should complete the TES application form. The Headteacher, Mr. Francis Retter, welcomes a brief covering letter and CV at f.retter@bjab.org.
