About This Role

Role Purpose

The Student Support Coordinator plays a crucial role in middle leadership, dedicated to ensuring that every student can engage with the curriculum and flourish, regardless of their starting point. In this position, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of specialists to provide comprehensive support throughout both the Primary and Secondary phases. Additionally, you will be an integral part of the Safeguarding team, playing a vital role in maintaining a strong protective culture within the school. This job description is intended to provide an overview of the main responsibilities, but it is expected that other duties may arise as necessary due to the nature of the role.

At Laurus International School of Science, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is our top priority. We expect all staff and volunteers to hold this commitment in high regard and maintain a vigilant, child-centred focus at all times. The successful applicant will need to complete thorough pre-employment checks, including police clearance, and must exhibit a comprehensive understanding of statutory safeguarding regulations. In this position, you will be accountable for creating a safe and supportive atmosphere where each student feels secure and empowered to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and evaluate the performance of School Counsellors and EAL teachers.

Work alongside the VP Teaching & Learning to ensure inclusive teaching practices are integrated throughout the entire school curriculum.

Collaborate with the VP Secondary & Science to manage department-specific interventions, ensuring EAL and SEND students can safely access technical language and practical laboratory work.

2. SEND, EAL & Admissions

Manage the identification, referral, and assessment processes for students with SEND and EAL needs, spanning from Primary to Secondary.

Admissions: Assist with the admissions process for incoming students by reviewing applications and conducting assessments to determine support needs.

Keep the Whole School Provision Map updated and ensure that all Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are of high quality and routinely reviewed.

3. Exam Access Arrangements (Cambridge)

Exam Documentation: Ensure that all necessary documentation is prepared and submitted promptly for students requiring additional support or access arrangements (e.g., extra time) for Cambridge Checkpoint, IGCSE, or A Level exams.

Work with the Exams Officer to guarantee that all approved accommodations are applied during official assessments.

4. Data Analytics (GL PASS & Academic Progress)

Take charge of analyzing the GL PASS (Pupil Attitudes to Self and School) assessment.

Discuss PASS data with senior leaders to identify students with low self-esteem or feelings of alienation from school, designing targeted interventions accordingly.

Cross-reference PASS results with attainment data to uncover "hidden" barriers to learning.

Provide termly reports to the Principal on the effectiveness of interventions related to student wellbeing.

5. Safeguarding & Teaching

Serve as a member of the Whole School Safeguarding Team, contributing to case management discussions.

Assist the DSL in ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and maintaining meticulous records.

Teaching Requirement: Depending on the candidate's qualifications and the needs of the school, there may be a requirement to teach; this will be discussed and agreed upon prior to appointment.

Person Specification (Essential Criteria)

Education: Qualified Teacher status along with a recognized SEND qualification.

Experience: Extensive experience in EAL/SEND coordination within an international school environment.
