About This Role

Location: Hong Kong.
Duties:

A. Knowledge and Understanding:
- Maintain a thorough understanding of Mathematics as defined by the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IB.
- Have a robust command of Mathematics content.
- Be prepared to answer subject-specific questions from students and recognize common misconceptions and errors within the discipline.
- Be knowledgeable about all secondary school curriculum and assessment criteria.

B. Planning and Setting Expectations:
- Develop clear educational objectives, content, lesson plans, and sequences tailored to the subject and students.
- Set ambitious yet attainable expectations for student learning and motivation, defining clear goals for student achievement based on prior knowledge and experiences.
- Identify students with special educational needs and those who are gifted and talented, knowing where to find support for targeted assistance. When applicable, create and manage records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

C. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:
- Provide effective instruction for whole classes, groups, and individuals to meet teaching objectives while keeping students engaged and challenged, optimizing instructional time.
- Employ teaching strategies that captivate students, nurturing intellectual curiosity through effective questioning, clear explanations, and suitable resources.
- Uphold high standards of student behavior, establishing and maintaining discipline through focused instruction and positive relationships.
- Promote positive behavior, enhance self-esteem, and support independent work in students to facilitate their educational journey within an ICT framework.

D. Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this evaluation to guide future instruction.
- Review and track students’ classwork and homework, providing constructive oral and written feedback, and setting targets for student growth.
- Be aware of the expectations set for students regarding the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5 when applicable.

E. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:
- Know how to craft and present informative reports for parents.
- Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and create opportunities for students to relate their learning to real-world and vocational contexts.
- Understand the value of partnering with external agencies.

F. Managing Own Performance and Development:
- Recognize the significance of taking responsibility for one’s professional development and staying informed about research and advancements in pedagogy and the subjects taught.
- Be aware of professional duties related to school policies, guidelines, and practices.
- Serve as a positive role model for students in terms of appearance and behavior.
- Critically evaluate one’s own teaching and use insights to improve effectiveness.

G. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:
- Cultivate effective working relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.

H. Managing Resources:
- Choose and use books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources effectively to meet teaching goals.

Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree along with a teaching certificate or license and strong subject knowledge.
- A minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience in a school setting.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
