About This Role

About Us:
Newham College London, now integrated with NewVIc Sixth Form College, stands as the largest post-16 educational institution in Newham. With campuses located in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we cater to over 11,000 students across various educational pathways, which include 16–18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education.

With a workforce exceeding 800 staff members, four key campuses, and an annual turnover of £60 million, Newham College ranks among the largest employers in the borough, significantly contributing to local economic and community development.

The Role:
We are offering multiple part-time and full-time positions for 20 hours and 36 hours per week.

We are in search of a dedicated and flexible individual to join our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) team. This position provides a chance to assist students in a dynamic and diverse Further Education environment.

Our LRCs are bustling, inclusive, and inviting spaces that support thousands of learners annually. With three hubs across the college, you will play an essential role in ensuring students have access to digital tools, study materials, online platforms, and the necessary support for academic success.

We are looking for friendly, proactive, and student-centered individuals who can help us uphold an exceptional LRC service.

Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering high-quality assistance to students and staff utilizing print, digital, and online resources.
- Assisting learners in accessing college IT systems, software, and digital learning platforms.
- Conducting workshops, inductions, and study skills sessions for both groups and individuals.
- Performing various library duties such as circulation, cataloguing, and processing print resources.
- Fostering a positive learning atmosphere by managing behavior and ensuring the health and safety of students.
- Promoting LRC services through displays, events, and participation in college-wide activities.
- Collaborating with curriculum areas and support teams to address the resource needs of students and staff.

You may be required to work at any of our campuses (Stratford, East Ham, or NewVIc) based on service requirements, so flexibility and a willingness to travel between locations are essential.

Our Ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Experience in customer service, education, libraries, learning support, or similar transferable skills.
- Proactive, organized, and capable of prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population, including those with additional support needs.
- Experience in providing administrative support such as record keeping, booking systems, resource organization, or similar tasks.
- Experience (or a willingness to develop skills) in promoting services via displays, events, or digital communications.
- A minimum Level 3 qualification (including GCSE English & Maths or equivalent).

Experience in an educational or library environment is preferred, but we also encourage applicants with strong customer service skills who are eager to learn and grow within the role.
