About This Role

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced teacher who is eager to make a meaningful impact in the Religious Studies department within the Humanities faculty (encompassing Classics, History, and Religious Studies), both in the classroom and beyond.

The selected candidate will instruct students across a range of ages, including A Level classes. All students participate in a short course at GCSE (AQA), which is a well-liked option for A Level (OCR). The department has a strong track record of success in examinations at both GCSE and A Level. Additionally, the department runs a Philosophy Society as part of its co-curricular offerings.

Please be advised that interviews for shortlisted candidates are expected to occur during the week starting Monday, February 10, 2025.

Applications should be submitted using the Elizabeth College application form. It is important to include all pertinent information within the application form itself; please do not attach separate supplementary documents.

ELIZABETH COLLEGE

Established in 1563 by Queen Elizabeth I, Elizabeth College is a selective day school located in St Peter Port, Guernsey, serving a diverse range of abilities. As one of the founding members of the Heads’ Conference, the school offers a rigorous and enriching academic and co-curricular program for students from 2 ½ to 18 years in a co-educational setting.

The Junior School operates across two locations, connected by the Elizabeth College Junior School Field. The Acorn House site caters to children aged 2½ to 7 (Key Stage 1) on King’s Road, while the Beechwood site accommodates children aged 7 to 10 (Key Stage 2) on Queen's Road. The ECJS is situated approximately half a mile from the Upper School at The Grange. Despite the division of campuses, shared facilities such as sports areas foster collaboration. Staff familiarity with the sites, personnel, and routines ensures seamless transitions between educational stages, with a focus on maintaining continuity in pastoral and academic support.

The Upper School transitioned to co-education in September 2021, welcoming girls into Year 7 and Year 12, in response to contemporary societal needs. This development builds on the co-educational model established in the Junior School and the benefits gained from the Sixth Form partnership with The Ladies’ College. By September 2024, Year 11 will be the last year group exclusively for boys as we gradually implement the co-educational model. The Upper School provides a diverse array of subjects, with students typically taking between nine and eleven GCSEs.

Outside of academics, there are ample opportunities for students to engage in sports, the Performing and Creative Arts, STEM initiatives, excursions, the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and various other activities.

At Elizabeth College, our students are at the heart of everything we do, guided by our core values. These principles influence our behavior, learning, and interactions, and are integrated into all facets of school life.

Our educational approach at Elizabeth College aims to cultivate well-rounded, resilient young individuals equipped with the skills, attitudes, and values necessary for success and positive societal contributions. This commitment begins early in the Junior School with straightforward core values that encourage our youngest learners to: Aim High, Be Kind, and Be Brave. This foundational toolkit for school life fosters self-confidence and a passion for learning, while also being attuned to the feelings of others.

As students progress to the Upper School, we actively apply our core values of Curiosity, Compassion, and Courage in our daily interactions and educational pursuits.

Elizabeth College is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people, adhering to Safer Recruitment practices. The successful candidate will need to complete our standard employment checks, including a DBS Enhanced Disclosure check. It is illegal to apply for this position if you are barred from engaging in regulated activities with children.

Online and social media checks will be conducted for all successful applicants.

We welcome all applications and will assess them in accordance with the Guernsey Discrimination Ordinance.
