Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and committed Educator to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and implementation of educational programs that celebrate diversity, promote equity, and acknowledge the cultural richness of our community. A strong commitment to indigenization, proficiency in competency-based curriculum development, and an innovative approach to land-based education are essential for this position.

Responsibilities:

Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community partners to design and deliver a competency-based curriculum rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.

Cultural Inclusion: Foster a learning atmosphere that appreciates and incorporates diverse Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture.

Equity and Inclusion: Create and implement strategies that promote equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing disparities and nurturing a sense of belonging for all students.

Community Engagement: Serve as a bridge between the school and the community, actively seeking input, collaboration, and feedback to continuously improve educational offerings.

Land-Based Education: Develop and integrate land-based learning opportunities within the curriculum, enhancing connections to the land and traditional practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education

Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate

The following criteria will be crucial during the recruitment process:

A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.

Experience with inquiry-based instructional methods.

Experience in implementing curriculum focused on competency-based education.

Experience in competency-based assessment and evaluation.

A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Familiarity with Inclusive Schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.

Knowledge of land-based education principles and practices.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
