About This Role

Become a part of our team as a Science and A Level Chemistry Teacher in Madrid.

In this role, you will teach general science at KS3 and IGCSE levels, as well as A-Level chemistry, in a school dedicated to fostering a strong science education. With small class sizes, state-of-the-art laboratories, and a passionate team that values scientific studies, you will prepare students for higher education in Medicine, Engineering, and Biomedical Sciences at esteemed universities across Europe and the UK.

Holy Mary is an independent British Catholic school situated in Madrid, established in 2009. Unlike large corporate chains, we operate autonomously, enabling local decision-making that minimizes bureaucracy and provides you the autonomy to teach in your own style.

Why consider Madrid?

Madrid is one of the most dynamic cities in Europe, featuring 300 days of sunshine annually, a remarkable culinary landscape, efficient public transport, and a lower cost of living than other capitals like London or Dublin. The city is home to a vibrant international community, offers direct flights to multiple European capitals, and provides an exceptional quality of life.

Many teachers who initially intend to stay for just one year find themselves calling Madrid home for many more.

What we offer:

  • Salary: 34,000 — 42,000 EUR gross/year (based on experience and qualifications).
  • Contract: Permanent from day one (‘contrato indefinido’ under Spanish labor law).
  • Professional development: Annual CPD program, funded training opportunities, and opportunities to lead departmental initiatives.
  • A comprehensive relocation and benefits package tailored for international candidates (details to be discussed during the interview).
  • Visa and paperwork assistance: We provide full support with work permits and local regulations, helping you navigate the process and reimbursing any associated costs.

Why choose Holy Mary?

We take pride in being a family-centered institution, not a corporate entity or part of a large school network. Founded by educators, we uphold family values in our operations.

What does this mean for you?

  • You will be recognized as an individual; our headteacher is personally acquainted with each teacher. Discussions drive decision-making instead of impersonal HR systems.
  • Students are motivated to learn, class sizes are small, parental involvement is strong, and behavior is commendable on most days.
  • Community matters to us. We celebrate successes together, provide mutual support, and maintain the unique culture that distinguishes our school.
  • Our Catholic identity is a core aspect of our community, shaping our values and interactions. We warmly welcome staff from diverse cultures and backgrounds who share our mission.

What we are looking for:

  • QTS, PGCE, B.Ed, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • A degree in chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching IGCSE science and A-Level chemistry.
  • A true passion for the subject and a commitment to supporting every student’s success.
  • A dedication to safeguarding and prioritizing the welfare of children.
  • We encourage applications from British, EU, and international candidates, as we assist with visa applications.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in a British international school and familiarity with Cambridge or Edexcel exam boards is advantageous. However, we welcome applications from skilled science teachers regardless.

How to apply:

To apply, please send your CV and a brief cover letter to vacancies@holymary.es, expressing your interest in Holy Mary and what you can bring to our science department. Apply via the WhatSchool platform.

We review applications on a rolling basis and conduct interviews promptly. Strong candidates may receive offers before the application deadline.

Holy Mary British Catholic School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All positions are subject to enhanced DBS and/or relevant police checks.

Compensation
