Location: Raoul Wallenberg International School, Palma, Mallorca, Spain

Position: Secondary Teacher (Physical & Health Education - with additional subject specialism)

Reporting to: Head of School and Head of Secondary

Salary and Benefits: Competitive salary based on the responsibilities of the role and the applicant’s experience. The Opportunity
Raoul Wallenberg International School (RWIS) is in search of an enthusiastic and adaptable teacher with a focus on Health & Physical Education, alongside other subject areas, to join our expanding school for the 2026–2027 academic year. Position Scope
Teaching and Learning:

• Plan and execute engaging, concept-driven Health & Physical Education lessons that are inclusive and inquiry-led, in line with The RWIS Way.

• Create educational experiences that enhance physical literacy, health literacy, personal wellbeing, teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong dedication to active and healthy living.

• Develop authentic, student-centered learning that connects movement, health, identity, decision-making, and wellbeing to real-world situations.

• Utilize a variety of pedagogical strategies—including inquiry, project-based learning, experiential learning, outdoor learning, and service learning—to enhance student engagement and relevance.

• Tailor learning experiences to cater to the needs of diverse learners, ensuring all students can face challenges, achieve success, and participate meaningfully.

• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that encourages student voice, personal growth, collaboration, and responsible risk-taking.

• Incorporate wellbeing, social-emotional learning, and character development into Health & Physical Education curricula.

• Employ assessment for learning to provide constructive feedback, monitor progress, and assist students in setting goals, reflecting, and taking ownership of their learning journey.

• Collaborate across subjects to create interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate health, movement, science, outdoor education, and community involvement.

• Advocate for a modern understanding of Health & Physical Education that encompasses wellbeing, relationships, lifestyle choices, and holistic development.

Curriculum Planning and Assessment:

• Design, plan, and execute lessons in Physical Education and other subject areas, ensuring a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application.

• Implement formative and summative assessments to evaluate and track student progress, providing timely feedback that nurtures learning.

• Keep accurate and current records of student performance and manage student data to monitor progress and identify growth areas.

• Collaborate with peers to ensure uniformity in curriculum planning and assessment practices across subjects and year groups.

Character Development and Values-Based Education:

• Contribute to students’ character development by integrating the school’s guiding principles and Class Connect Programme, fostering a sense of community and respect.

• Exemplify and instill core values such as honesty, compassion, courage, and determination in daily teaching and interactions with students.

Student Wellbeing and Support:

• Ensure the emotional and social wellbeing of students is prioritized, helping them to feel safe, valued, and supported within their learning environment.

• Partner with the Student Life Coordinator and School Counsellor to respond to individual student needs and cultivate a nurturing environment for holistic growth.

Collaboration and Community Building:

• Work collaboratively with secondary school colleagues to plan, deliver, and assess interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives.

• Cultivate meaningful relationships with students, families, and the broader school community, ensuring open communication and strong partnerships.

• Actively engage in the school’s professional development initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Sports Program:

• Collaborate within and outside the PHE department to develop a comprehensive sports program, providing both recreational and competitive opportunities for students to enhance their learning.

• Coach various sports teams throughout the year and assist other staff in coaching teams as necessary.

Bringing Personal Passions to Life:

• Integrate your unique skills, passions, and subject knowledge into the classroom and the broader school community, enriching students’ educational experiences.

• Contribute to the ASA (After School Activities) Programme by leading clubs, activities, or workshops that reflect your interests and talents.

Ideal Candidate
Qualifications and Experience:

• A degree in Secondary Education with a focus on Physical & Health Education, or a related field, with preference for a Master’s degree or PhD.

• A minimum of 2–3 years of teaching experience in secondary education, preferably in an inquiry-based international and/or British school setting.

• Familiarity with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or Cambridge International Curriculum. Teaching experience in IBDP Sports, Exercise, and Health Science courses, or an equivalent course is advantageous.

• A robust teaching background, demonstrating expertise in teaching, learning, and assessment.

• Proficiency in English (fluency in Spanish, Swedish, German, or another language is a plus).
