The Role

Accountability

The Head of Junior School is accountable to the Head of School and, through them, to the Uppingham Vietnam Board of Advisors. This role will involve reporting to the Head of School regarding all aspects tied to the effective management and organization of the Junior School.

The School retains the right to modify the role’s requirements as circumstances change or new opportunities emerge.

Key Areas of Responsibility

In collaboration with the Head of School, the Head of Junior School will work to establish a Junior School of exceptional quality that reflects the Uppingham name. This leader will provide vision, guidance, and leadership, fostering a nurturing environment where both students and teachers can thrive.

Qualifications

• A strong degree from a recognized university

• A post-graduate teaching qualification (QTS)

• Additional post-graduate studies or leadership training would be advantageous

Experience

• Proven history of successful senior leadership, with experience at Deputy Head level or higher

• Comprehensive understanding of the challenges and expectations associated with leadership in a Junior School setting, gained through direct experience

• An exceptional educator and respected leader in learning, with a demonstrated ability to enhance teaching and learning and nurture a culture of innovation

• Proven capability in developing and leading high-performing teams

• Experience in adhering to financial protocols and managing substantial school budgets

• Experience in creating and executing comprehensive school improvement strategies

• Experience in conducting staff performance evaluations

Skills and Knowledge

• Excellent communication abilities, with the presence, authority, and interpersonal skills to inspire the Junior School community and effectively represent Uppingham Vietnam

• Strong knowledge of child development, the Early Years Foundation Stage, and the principles of effective practices within the English Primary School Curriculum; a child-centered philosophy and approach

• Awareness of contemporary educational thought, initiatives, challenges, and pedagogical matters

• Commitment to the highest standards of education and pastoral care for all students

• Strategic thinking skills, with the capacity to articulate and share the School’s vision while identifying necessary steps to achieve established goals in the pursuit of excellence

• Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, a readiness to delegate meaningfully, and an intuitive grasp of how to foster conditions that enable others to grow, develop, and succeed; comfortable employing technology to communicate and collaborate with colleagues and enhance learning

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Compensation

$58,000 - $64,000 per year (Attract Salary + benefits)
