About This Role

We are looking for a skilled and dynamic Deputy Head of Primary to assist in the leadership and management of our Primary School, which serves around 350 students in a thriving international setting.

In this role, the Deputy Head of Primary will collaborate closely with the Head of Primary to uphold exceptional standards in teaching, learning, curriculum delivery, and student wellbeing throughout the Primary phase.

The Role
The Deputy Head of Primary will aid in both the strategic and operational leadership of the Primary School, playing a vital role in its ongoing enhancement and daily functionality.

Responsibilities include overseeing specific areas of Primary education, fostering staff development, and ensuring that all students achieve positive outcomes through consistent quality and high standards. Additionally, the Deputy Head will be instrumental in nurturing a strong, cooperative culture within the Primary School.

A significant emphasis of this position will be on promoting innovative and engaging learning methodologies, particularly the effective incorporation of STEM into the Primary curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Assist the Head of Primary in the daily leadership and management of the Primary School.
- Oversee designated responsibilities within the Primary phase (such as curriculum development, assessment, inclusion, and wellbeing).
- Participate in the strategic development and evaluation of the Primary School's development plan.
- Ensure that high expectations and uniform standards are maintained across all Primary classes and year groups.

Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum
- Aid in the continual development, implementation, and assessment of the Primary curriculum.
- Advocate for high-quality teaching and learning practices, including inquiry-based, child-centered, and technology-enhanced methods.
- Facilitate the successful integration of STEM across the Primary curriculum.
- Evaluate teaching and learning through lesson observations, work scrutiny, data analysis, and feedback.

Staff Support and Development
- Line-manage selected Primary staff members.
- Foster professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and collaborative planning.
- Contribute to staff appraisal processes, goal-setting, and performance reviews within the Primary phase.
- Assist in the induction and ongoing development of new Primary staff members.

Student Wellbeing and Inclusion
- Cultivate a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning atmosphere for all Primary students.
- Support systems facilitating pastoral care, behavior management, and student wellbeing within the Primary School.
- Help monitor and provide support for students with additional learning or language requirements.

Parents and Community
- Establish strong, positive relationships with parents in the Primary School community.
- Facilitate effective communication between the school and families.
- Lead or participate in Primary parent meetings and events as needed.

Person Specification
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership or middle leadership position within a Primary School.
- Robust understanding of the Primary curriculum, assessment methods, and child-centered pedagogy.
- Experience in supporting and developing teaching staff.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities.
- Dedication to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

Desirable
- Experience or keen interest in STEM education within the Primary context.
- Background in an international school setting.
- History of contributing to curriculum innovation or school improvement initiatives in the Primary phase.
